Thinking of placing a bid on a Park Pl Apt. — Brooklynian

Thinking of placing a bid on a Park Pl Apt.

I'm thinking about putting in a bid on a place between vanderbilt and flatbush on park place....Quick question for some of you guys:

I've heard various things about the safety and the neighborhood. Some say it's no problem on this street and haven't felt threatened in walking alone at night/early morning.

Others have said that they know of various muggings and such- and do not find the area to be all that comfortable. Inquires through the local precinct didn't turn up very much. They said that it's been quiet.

Any of you live on this street in close proximity that can give an opinion on the safety in this area?

Any help is appreciated!

  • Subject: park place apartment

I live on that block and I've never had a problem. it's so near the subway there are always tons of people. I think it's one of the best blocks in prospect heights.
  • Subject: safety

Generally the neighborhood is safe, but like anywhere in NYC, bad things do happen sometimes. That block is definately one of the better ones in the area.

  • That block is one of the best in PH (besides Prospect Place of course) .... near the subway, well lit and a lot of foot traffic. But as others said.... you should still use caution anywhere, especially at night.
  • Subject: Park Place is the best

I live on that block and it is pure heaven -- very quiet, well lit, subway right on the corner. Park Place between Flatbush and Vanderbilt rocks!
  • It annoys me (sorry, Patoons) when people unfamiliar with Prospect Heights worry that it's a sketchy area. Often I meet folks who say they wouldn't move to this hood because they think it's unsafe.

Ultimately I guess I don't mind, because that's all the more ProHo goodness for us. But does anybody know the actual crime stats on PH versus, say, Park Slope?
  • I agree with everyone else. The block that you mention is beautiful, quiet, and safe. Go ahead and place your bid.
  • I lived on that block for two years and really liked it a lot (didn't like the particular apartment per se, which is why I don't live there any more, but that is neither here nor there as far as your question is concerned).

The proximity to the subway was really great ... as was proximity to a very good (albeit expensive) 24-hour grocery (Sea Land on Flatbush), which in my mind is an almost priceless benefit.

Also, for the record, real estate values wise, I say buy, because that block is appreciating unbelievably (or at least it was at the time). I bought in 2000 and sold in 2002 at almost double what I originally paid, and with absolutely no renovation work put into it (which it needed badly).
  • I recently bought on the same block and i love it. It is very safe...every 5 to 10 minutes a herd of people get off the subway. I've lived in the general neighborhood for 6 years now.... most of my time was on pacific st...

The neighborhood has been relatively safe for a long time and it is only improving in terms of sense of community and investment. get in before you miss out.

Lovely block! As safe as could be... Just be smart!

No offense taken. I just like to find out everything I can about the area in general.

    Thanks for all the help!
  • Subject: The biggest crime!

I think there is more crime in Park Slope.. I think one of the biggest crimes in Prospect Heights is people calling this lovely 'hood "ProHo".
