Subject: How many robberies, when?

What do police records show about the robberies cited in several posts,(Ballard's, Stop and Go, etc.)? Were these recent, were they armed robberies, were they just shop-lifting, what? Why don't we see statistics with dates and locations of incidents? Why didn't the community papers print details in the police blotter sections? I am concerned that the local police are failing to officially recognize felonies.

Have others heard of crimes committed but not reported by the victim or that were diminished by the police?

Stop and Shop filed a report, I was there when they did and they were advised by the Police their video wasn't good enough to ID the thief.

Ballards was an attempt to steal packages of lotto scratch tickets which was stopped by the owner,who called the 72nd and no one responded..

I went to Stop and Shop with Ballards owner who viewed the video films and he verified both
incidents were by the same individuals.

Accounting is in the eyes of the beholder.

Just saw that a guy was arrested....they showed him cuffed on ABC news. 22 year old guy from Brooklyn.

So what is the neighborhood doing for the family? What has been organized? Flexi when you know, can you post so that those of us who didn't know her can donate, participate or whatever? I know a lot of people who knew her and are upset and it would be good to show support to the family

Somebody should organize something. I didn't know her. But there could be some kind of neighborhood memorial, a garden planted in her honor, money sent to a cause the family believes in, a bench, a tree.....you know that kind of thing.

The person on KWTneighbors is looking for someone to step up and take the lead on this project and make it happen. There are LOTS of people who want to help but nobody knows who should be the person who just gets the ball rolling. Anyone want to take on a meaningful community project?

Your post implies that the police blatantly ignored a call for help.

You can't drop a bomb like this in these forums. If the Ballard's owner did call 911 and not a single unit responded to the scene, then that is a very SERIOUS problem that needs to be escalated.

I hope he called 911, and not just the desk phone at the 72. The precinct is not the place to call for an emergency. That is what 911 is for.

Brooklyn is currently crawling with cops (especially since the last class graduated) and there would have been a response to a call dispatched by 911.

yea that sounds somewhat dubious. I would be shocked if it is true that the 72nd did not respond to a 911 call. And if that is the case someone needs to be held accountable.

Hamilton's post clearly states that Ballards called the 72nd, not that he called 911. My guess would be that he did this because there was no crime committed, hence the thought that there was no emergency.

I just stopped in Ballards to verify what I posted was what the owner had stated.
The owner called a Pct. he said is on Coney Island Ave and he was advised it was not in their area, He was then given a Pct. number that he was advised covered PPW& Windsor PL.
He called and explained the situation and was advised they would be there soon and in the mean time look for a foot Patrolman, which he did.

He mentioned the problem to the Officer and was advised a report will be filled out when a car arrives,which never appeared.

Yeah, 72nd is my effing precinct. I tried to call them on the phone once (non emergency) and nobody answered. I went through 311 on another call and got someone who advised me not to call the Sheriff (my car was missing) because if there were any outstanding tickets on the car, I would get arrested.

Well, WTGirl, it's pretty easy to say "I didn't know her.." and then point fingers at other people.

As a single woman, I simply don't want to give out my name and phone number to organize this.

I'm hoping that somebody from KWT can do it (Brooklyn Jack is watching) or I will go to the deli or one of the other local places and see if people can drop money off there.

Hello.
I found this forum via a google search I was doing for news about this sickening crime. Linda was my Aunt (my Mom's older sister). Our family is completely devastated, especially my Mom. She was my Mom's best friend, her only confidante, and they spoke for hours every day. My Mother is just so distraught.

It just hurts us so, b/c my Aunt ran a dry cleaning business in Brooklyn for as long as I've been alive... all day, practically every day, for 20 years. She cared for my Uncle who is in a wheelchair & disabled. She has 3 grandchildren, which she will never get to see grow up. She had all these plans with my Mom to retire and travel together... for the first time. She never even had a chance to go back to Korea and see her family.

It sickens me what happened to her. The police, as of last night, hasn't given my cousins (Linda's sons) any details about the arrest. The family, is however, overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. There were over 200 people at the services, and we are so comforted knowing that she was cared by so many.

Please continue to support and protect your neighborhood businesses. Keep an eye out for each other.
