Subject: The Knit In at Freddy's Bar

imageCold enough fer ya? Warm up at the Knit In at Freddy's Bar this weekend. It's the first Saturday of every month from 5:00 until 8:00 PM or when ever the band kicks us out.

This is the second winter for knitting at Freddy's. The Knit In was featured in Knit.1 Magazine and also on the Jane Pauley Show. It's not a craft class, it's a friendly drink-optional depot for stitching, bitching and unwinding.

It's never too late to make a hand crafted gift for the Holidays like a pot holder or a hat. Or maybe a hat made from holders. So drop off your laundry, pick up some Chinese food, join us this Saturday and finish that scarf! Stick around for the Tom Waits tribute later that evening. Always on hand at the Knit In are a swift, wool-winder, patterns books and spare needles. Crocheters are welcomed and men are encouraged.

Cheers,
That Yarn Guy

  • Stitch Therapy got a shout-out yesterday on ABC 7:

"Stitch Therapy" in Park Slope, Brooklyn has knitting and crocheting circles. In fact, most knitting stores offer classes in both crafts.

This yarn and needle shop opened over a year ago. Owner Maxcine Degouttes gave up her job in the corporate world and hasn't looked back.
  • My New Years Resolution: Learn to Knit ... or Crochet ... (What?) ...

Hey, learning to knit was my 2004 resolution! It's one of only two resolutions I've ever managed to keep.

I'm going to try to go check the Freddy's group out this weekend -- anyone else going?
  • I might be there. I'll probably be working on a scarf or a hat in varrigated sock yarn. Introduce yo'self. I'm an Uffish fan.

    Is it open to neophytes?

I would imagine so -- most knitters love sharing what they know with people who are new to it. Hell, I'd be happy to teach you a little!

Cool .. maybe I'll just be a "Knitting Voyeur" ...

    :D

i keep buying really expensive yarn because its gorgeous
but i don't know how to knit.
i have been using it for everything BUT knitting.
    maybe i should learn.
i have been watching your knitting progress on UT and have been VERY jealous.
  • I'm kind of tempted to go just to use their wool-winder. I just got a new batch of yarn that's lace-weight and I tried winding it myself--really difficult and annoying.

Wool-winder: wheeeeeee! so much better than the alternative, unless the alternative is asking the cute guy in the coffee shop to hold out his arms so you can shamelessly use him to ball your yarn and flirt ... not that I've ever tried this one
  • I have a cheapie swift I bought on eBay for something like 15 bucks that works just dandy, but I got a walnut nostepinne instead of a wool winder, because I'm old school like that.
  • My fiance wants to go, and I will attend with her. Fun stuff.
  • Okay, where were you people?! EmilyM and I were the only DHers there! It was a nice group of folks, though -- first time I've ever gone to a knitting group that didn't have at least one crazy annoying person. And there were even two guy knitters!

It was a friendly bunch of folks; I'm definitely going to try to go again next month. Lovely meeting you, Emily!
