Just wondering if someone could recommend a good reputable service for wall mounting a television and speaker system for me.

Thanks,

  • We used Fire Dog. They did a pretty nice job, not too expensive:

  • firedog's website says they charge $399, $399!!! I bet that doesn't even include the mount. There is no reason you can't do this yourself. A good cantilever mounting bracket can be found for under $100, you can use a magnet to find your wall studs, or use a couple of molly or toggle bolts which will easily hold up a 50lb tv (1/8" toggles are generally rated for 50lbs each). Total cost to you <$110 for parts, and an hour of labor max. I've used molly's/toggles to mount my tv (30") in 3 different places, two with drywall, one with slats and never had any problems. Seems like firedog is going to the ER for a band-aid.

    Read about wall fasteners here:

  • If you're going to do it yourself, I recommend Monoprice for the wallmount. Most other places are insanely overpriced. I mounted my own...didn't need any tilting/cantilever features...and paid like $25 for a static mount. Very solid. They have tilting mounts for $10 more or so.

Like Melanarchy said, mounting the screen is really pretty easy. Hiding the wires behind the wall is also pretty easy, as long as you are just doing a basic placement of the DVD/receiver/cable box/etc. right below the TV (ie, not wiring to a home theater receiver centrally located somewhere else in the apartment).

You also mentioned mounting speakers...I did that as well (two rear surrounds flush mounted in the ceiling with concealed speaker wire). That was a lot harder...I wouldn't recommend DIY'ing it unless you're fairly handy.
