end of the internet? or i should should stop reading

  • Not completely buying it. "we have come across some information..." "within four years..."

These guys on video seem very earnest and concerned for good reasons, but there is not much substance behind the claims.

They could help their case if they actually explained the business model that will force millions of users to accept a crippled version of the Internet that has 60 websites.

We've been through this once with AOL, which was the "walled garden" that hoped to confine all internet users. AOL used to have 25 million subscribers. Now they have about 8 million. They have been on a constant and inexorable slow-motion nosedive since 2002.

That said, media people know user psychology, inside and out. They will probably come up with a way to convince many people to buy "website packages", probably by using premium websites only available to subscribers.

But how does that kill the Internet?

Millions of people spend their entire vacation at Disneyland. But somehow the corporations can't prevent you from hiking Mt. Washington, or flying to Belize to snorkel, or driving to Rome on the A1 in a rented Fiat.

On the other hand, this is a very sobering assessment that meticulously details how the free internet will disappear:
