Boulders on Dean Street — Brooklynian

Boulders on Dean Street

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
I posted this topic on the Crown Heights board recently, but no one seemed to know anything. Hence, I shall give it a try here. Recently, I noticed four or five boulders on Dean Street (on either side of Classon Avenue). One of them is painted red, white, and blue, but the others are unpainted. Does anyone know how they got there, what's in store for them, etc.? Any theories? I'm curious.

  • I don't know about the Classon boulders but as you can tell by my name, I am into rocks. I notice rocks. The boulders are usually the by-product of local construction. People dig them out of the foundation and put them on the sidewalk. The garbage men and dumpsters can't deal with the big heavy things so there they remain.

There was a giant chunk of mica schist on the Eastern Parkway south service road between Rogers/Nostrand, in front of a building project there. Had to be about fifty pounds or more, sparklling like a mofo. Wonder if it's still there?

Underhill Ave had all kinds of big stones left over from the lowrise housing development. Some were incorporated into stoop decorations.

The big building at Eastern Pkway and Underhill had a bunch of rocks left over from the excavation resulting from a water main break a few years ago. These big rocks were incorporated into a rock garden in front of the building.

Looking forward to the rock dumps from the latest big project at GAP! :D

If that is so have you seen the house on the corner of Bergen and Carlton. I would love to know how many are actually in front and inside that house.
  • Wow I so totally have to go check that place out!!!!. It will be a good excuse for a walk with my dog. Thanks!!! 8)
  • If you're into rocks, you ought to check out the ones on Dean and Classon. They are huge, my guess is that they weigh 1,000 pounds a piece.
