Mostly because they finally have an eyewitness to testify ( Scott McClellan) as to the truth and nature of all this, since any other prior efforts would have been thwarted by Bush administration illegally shredding any and all evidence.

for the record, I'm all for impeaching the asshat - I just think this is all a giant publicity stunt in anticipation of november that could get real ugly or just fizzle out and be teh useless.

Maybe, but it's also a time when the lame-duck President is at his weakest, especially as fewer people (^COUGH! except McCain! ^COUGH!) are looking to stand by him with each passing month, being political creatures themselves.

It's going to go to the Judiciary Committee and nothing will happen with it, just like the articles of impeachment against Cheney. At least it's there in the Congressional record now for future historians.

and i think the benefit of impeachment is the mark upon his presidency in the history books. won't change anything now but will definitely taint his history.
