WORST pedicure ever
In the past Salon 97 was just fine, but I went to get my toes done on Friday and it was the sloppiest, most half-assed pedi ever. Paint all over my toes, and my big toe was obviously poorly painted, I had to ask her to repaint it--three times!
oy.
On the other hand, even though it looks a little sketchy, I have always had great luck at Romy's downt he street.

I stopped going to Romy's a long time ago. She started charging for everything - smudge your nail when drying ....$1.....etc, etc.
Been going to Lavender Nails on PPW for years now. -

ppw and what? is that the one by Prospect?
yeah, I know Romy's is tacky that way, but I have always been happy w/ my nails afterward and it lasts. -

Subject: what about...?
Dashing Diva? they're *somewhat* more sanitary than those discount salons...and the staff's actually nice...there are 2 locations, one's on 7th.
Or Cure Beauty Bar? looks really pretty...if anyone has been there, fill me in! -

Clearly I am a hypochondriac, but do you guys bring your own tools to avoid fungus?

Subject: actually...
theyre supposed to change each file, orangewood stick and buffer for each client since they arent sanitizable. The implements (cuticle nippers, nail clippers, etc) are fine to be reused, IF they are sanitized...
so scarlett, i dont think youre not a hypocondriac...u can get some nasty crap if ur not aware of a salon's sanitation procedures...especially discount aka mass production "salons"
there are tons of lawsuits of clients getting herpes n other nasty diseases...
beauty is pain, huh? -

Herpes??????????? AAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is scary. But seriously no matter how careful I am, I cannot do my toes like the professionals.
I was reading this article that said eben when the tools seem to be sanitized, they're not really. They have to sit in scary fluid for like a day and often they are just dunked and then reused. -

I don't think you have to worry about herpes, but fungus is a possibility

well, yeah, you can catch herpes, hep C, and even get infected with staph...
not trying to scare you, but its the truth...
i actually graduated from nail school this month, awaiting licensure and skin/nail disorders were a big part of the written test. I'm pretty sure most of the employees at those discount salons arent licensed and dont know a thing about the danger they put themselves AND their clients in.
You dont have to have the implements (cuticle nippers, nail clippers, cuticle pushers, etc) sitting in sanitation fluid all day. They have to be washed with soap and water, fully submerged in hospital grade sanitation liquid for atleast 10 minutes, then rinsed again for EACH client.
Every time i perform services on a client, I always make sure I explain the procedures to them, so they know what to look for when getting their nails done anywhere else. I always say "think of the nastiest, dirtiest person youve ever seen in your life. Now think about sharing your nail file with about 10 of them." Disgusting, right? -

well, it's not just the implements, a lot of the problem is the drain in the pedicure chair. That's where all the germs hang out and party. I would bet money that most salons never sufficiently clean that area
