Possible Feral Cat Poisoning — Brooklynian

Possible Feral Cat Poisoning

I'm sorry to post such a morbid note, but I'm hoping you guys in the neighborhood may be able to help me. As some of you may know, I spayed and neutered the cats on Bergen near Barette in December.

There were eight ferals there and now I've only seen three. Two are still at the lot and one has sniffed me out and moved to my yard. Everyone else has gone missing.

A few months ago someone had put raw meat inside one of the construction sites. I was pissed about it, but couldn't get inside to get it out. I didn't think it was poisoned, but I was worried about the cats eating raw meat. A few days later I saw gray and white diarrhea all over the lot that I feed the kitties in and started to get worried. After that I saw less and less cats, until now when I only see two (along with a new gray guy I need to get neutered).

I suppose with all the new construction the cats may have moved, but I just don't know why they would move from the lot, which is untouched and has food and shelter for them...

This is where I need you Brooklynians. Have any of you heard of disgruntled neighbors, construction workers, landlords threatening to do something to the cats? From my conversations with a lot of the people in the neighborhood, they've all been thankful for the work I've done as there are no more kittens. And since I feed the cats no longer rip through garbage bags on trash day. But that doesn't mean everyone is happy...

Have any of you seen my cats anywhere in the neighborhood lately? These are who are missing:
Gray Lady
Lost Boy who is always seen with his girlfriend Wonton
Mr. Chin
Baby's Mama

Hopefully they've simply moved and someone has seen them. Please let me know. I've gotten attached to these survivors.

  • That's awful. I'm so sorry. Wish I could do something.

  • I've always been worried about some asshole messing with the strays I feed. You don't even want to know the shit I've heard around the neighborhood. I'm a bit further up Bergen but I'll keep my eyes out for them. I did see a cat that looked a bit like Mr. Chin a couple weeks ago but I couldn't get a close look.

Didn't they start digging at that site recently? It's the one to the right of the yard where the hardware store parked their truck, right? The site that stayed fenced for months after they tore the house down? Or am I going nuts? Possible, I know.

I'll start taking my dogs for their long walks down that way and see if I see anything. I hope they're okay!

  • Caseiopele,
It's not quite that lot, but near there so I wonder if the construction at the site next to Daffodil Hardware's parking lot freaked them. I'd rather that then anything else. Thanks for taking a look for me. As many eyes as I can get the better.

The last time I saw Mr. Chin he was near my house, so I'm hoping he and Black Sheep have both sniffed me out and finding shelter and food in my yard. Poor guys.

  • If you suspect foul play you should report it. I'm not saying that it will make any difference, but you should report it anyway.

  • Any news on the kitties?
  • Unfortunately no. I've posted up signs warning people that poisoning cats is a felony and asking people for tips. We'll see if anything comes of it. :( I'm hoping the kitties just moved on, but I'd like to know for sure.
  • i hope the kitties are okay :(.
