  • It starts slow and kinda grows on you.

But it's nothing a shot won't clear up.

    ***edited to add:

    Dammit, now I'm thirsty.

ha. meanwhile, I'm depending on this thread to actually assist me in locating current musical trends. blah. at this rate I should be watching stigmata videos again or something. at least I know I love them and they make me sufficiently violent to handle summer in the appropriate fashion.

  • Been following RCRD LBL since they launched a while back. good stuff:
    http://rcrdlbl.com/

Coincidentally, they also recently posted the Estella song as a nominee for Song Of The Summer, which I happened to noticed today after posting it above.

Check out Brooklyn grrl Santogold, mentioned on there...

(flash mp3 player at right there)

"Your Voice" dub is totally chill.

"L.E.S. Artistes" is kinda like what it would sound like if Nelly Furtado was out in front of Coldplay.

"Creator" is kinda like an 8-bit acid Pacman-blueghost dancehall/rudeboy rant. Heh. Either that or a cross between an elephant and a rhino.

That chick is all over the place, and runs with a brick in her hand.

    And I love it.

  • have you ever heard 8-bit rocker? I think the guy is from somewhere in northern europe (or at least that's where his records are pressed) - his stuff rules. I'm checking these things out now - hoping work isn't keeping me from listening to the files.

    Speaking of which...

Ikea Who? Santogold Shoots Video in Red Hook

    image
While the eyes of the world were on the opening of the Red Hook Ikea yesterday, Santogold and her crew were busy just a stone’s throw away on Van Brunt Street. It’s not clear what song this is for, but from the photos one guesses it has to do with pedaling a pimped-out bicycle through a cocaine windstorm, something her fanbase won't have a problem identifying with.
    Noice!
  • Plies - Bust It Baby Pt. 2 featuring Neyo

  • I cannot stand that "I kissed a girl" song. The lyrics and especially the video smacks of Girls Gone Wild. I have nothing to add about new songs since I'm woefully out of touch.
  • Yeah, I see what you mean, especially as one cannot flip the dial these days without hearing it every five minutes at this point, much to the merriment of Mooks and Midriffs everywhere.

Its initial catchy nature soon turns to a major annoyance especially as much as it has come to be played [out...] everywhere now, which only trivializes and objectifies the subject further for those who weren't too fond of it in the first place.

So perhaps this is a case of a big summer song that annoys and burns out too quickly, taking the low road and under such heavy rotation.

This one definitely goes the wired --> tired --> expired route much quicker than others contenders this summer, IMO.
  • I wonder if the rest of her stuff is any better, I do like her voice. So where do you kids find new music these days? If it isn't blasting out of a car window then I don't hear anything new lately.
  • Ne-Yo - Go On Girl

  • Doubt this will make it big, but it definitely bumps along like a summer song:

(in the same way that some old Coolio, Gap Band and Parliament tunes do)

DGENERATE NATION - "Skate With Me"

  • Aaaaand for a 2008 recap, the following:

DJ Earworm - United State of Pop 2008 (Viva La Pop) - Mashup of Top 25 Billboard Hits
