Good craic — Brooklynian

Good craic

windowdressing

So I was trying to hang blinds in my new apartment at around 5:00 on Monday afternoon. The blinds are of the up/down variety and my windows are pretty damn tall so it wasn't the easiest task. Since I didn't have a ladder I was perched perilously on the sill of the window, six feet off the ground, holding onto the bars and trying to drill the ceiling. Not fun. Not safe.

Standing on the sill, I was the butt of any number of jokes from my friends who were "helping" (themselves to my beer). After a particularly pointed jibe, I referred to one of my friends in my apartment as an "asshole." At that very moment, a young woman was walking past my window (I'm on the 1st floor, 16th st close to 7th ave). She stops. Turns.

"What did you just call me?" she asked.

I apologized profusely. After an uncomfortable moment she seemed to accept my explanation and apology.

Then, of course, she asked me... "You know where I can get some crack around here?"

I didn't.

But I thought it was pretty damn funny that:
a) she thought that I would know (dangling from my window, drill in hand)
and;

b) when my friend suggested that she might be looking for "craic" of the Irish variety, in which case I most certainly do know how to find some of the good stuff.
