IKEA
So, is anyone brave enough to go to the opening tomorrow?
Geez, I just googled and found this:
How Swede it is.
New York City's first Ikea store doesn't open until Wednesday, but it's already a shopper magnet.
Starting about 5 a.m., dozens descended on Red Hook Monday hoping to be the first inside the much-anticipated Swedish superstore - drawn by the chance to win a $400 Ektorp sofa and other fancy furnishings.
And some came prepared to camp out under the Brooklyn stars with tents and sleeping bags.
"We got here around, well, Father's Day," said Brandis Sanchez, 27, who arrived at 5 a.m. with her dad, a retired Marine, for a chance to one of 35 couches.
Also:
The 346,000-square-foot store will feature a 450-seat restaurant, a Swedish food market and cafe, a children's play area, baby care rooms, 50 room settings, three model home interiors, home delivery, and design consultation. The Swedish retailer has arranged for New York Water Taxi to provide free service to and from Pier 11 in Lower Manhattan every 40 minutes during store hours, and it will run shuttle buses to the three closest subway stops.
