Crowd Size at Met Opera tonight??
First some stats...
1. This is the only Met performance in NYC for the Summer
2. Met officials said they hoped there will be a crowd of 150,000
3. Long Meadow has never had more than 25,000 people for an outdoor performance
4. The largest crowds for a classical music concert reach close to 20,000
5. In the past Met performances in Prospect Park have drawn 5,000 to 8,000
Your guess for crowd size tonight?

I can't believe they're hoping for a crowd of that size, but then again they will have their fancy badges and craft services and big barricades to keep proper distance from the masses will will tear themselves limb from limb due to someone stepping on their blanket.

Who thinks the weather will cooperate?

I hope it does, but its calling for tstorms from 4-10pm... not looking too promising.

Rain date is Saturday, which at this point has no storms forecast. (As if that has any bearing on the weather.)

i can't say how many people there were, but it was certainly more than years past when the Met would perform in more than one park. anyone hear a tally?

It was a sea of people. At some point it became mostly toddlers.
But really - it was great and there were tons of people and everybody seemed vastly appreciative of the experience. In the little piece of land where I was sitting, there were thousands upon thousands of people - I can't see how there could have been fewer than 75,000 altogether in Long Meadow and the environs.
It was a gorgeous experience, to be there with so many families and to be around so many people enjoying this astonishing music. I felt incredibly lucky and blessed. -
NY 1 reported 50,000 on their 11:00PM broadcast

Granted I did get there on the later side- it didn't seem more than 20,000, if that.
