This summer St. Joseph's College in the Clinton Hills section of Brooklyn will be sponsoring “New Voices”, a playwriting workshop for high school students. “New Voices” will occur at the college for four weeks, three days a week, beginning on July 14th, and will culminate in a fifth production week where 10-15 minutes plays written by the participating students will be produced in association with the college's student dramatics society.

“New Voices” is designed to introduce young writers to the basics of writing dramatic literature. Techniques of character development, dramatic structure, plot development, and writing dialogue will be covered, to name a few areas of concentration. Although the program will specifically deal with writing for the stage, the skills sharpened in the program will be applicable to any form of scripted literature, from sketch comedy to screenplays. The program will be open to students ranging from incoming high school freshmen to outgoing high school seniors. The cost of the program is $250 per participating student. Registration is ongoing and spots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis, so act quickly. (All slots are expected to be filled by the end of June.) Please e-mail requests for further information or for registration to "[email protected]"
