The Old PS 9 Building — Brooklynian

The Old PS 9 Building

The scaffolding is finally down from the PS 9 building on Sterling & Vanderbilt, and I'm back to wondering... what does it look like on the inside? I have always had this fantasy that the cafeteria was transformed into a grand ballroom or something. Would love some insider info.

  • Funny enough, I'm having dinner tonight with a PS9 insider. Make you a deal - e-mail us a photo of the exterior sans scaffold and I'll tell you all about the grand ballroom/cafeteria.
  • Subject: I second that.

I am also dying to know what it looks like inside PS 9. Is it a co-op? How long ago was it converted from school to apartments? What do the hallways look like? Are they all studios or what?

    Many more questions. Very curious.

I checked them out in I think 1992 and they were brand new then.

I live in the building. It doesn't really have a lot of school-like attributes. It does have very wide hallways (I would say about 10 to 12 feet). It also has wide stairways and huge windows. I've been considering putting some lockers outside my apartment to use as storage but don't have the time, money, energy.

I have no idea what became of the cafeteria though. I should ask someone that was around in the early days.
  • how do you find out about availible co-op's in that building?i heard there was a waiting list? is this true?
