  • Sounds like firecrackers. Very annoying. I just took my dog outside and he completely freaked out... He's terrified of thunder and fireworks (no other noises). This time of year is hell for him.

I'm just wondering who exactly is setting these things off and where!
  • yeah after the 30 in a row that just went off, you're right, def firecrackers...

i'm on president and my kitchen faces the backyards of those on carroll so it's definitely in that direction and can't be too far away - so damn loud!
  • Well, I am on 4th Street, and we heard it very clearly the moment we stepped out the door. From inside the apartment with the fans in the windows we can't hear it (thankfully).

This happened last night too, and seems to happen quite a bit around July 4th.
  • damn this thing they call independence! bah!!

eh, i guess it'll subside in a few weeks then...not much we can do...
  • fireworks, jeeze.

    saw them from my window.

Fourth of July is less than two weeks away. Was this a gag post?
  • Apparently, the 4th Ave guys were battling the 7th Ave guys. But don't worry, it was just a test run.
  • There were some really pretty ones last night. Yeah summer and random fireworks!
  • obamanut - not a gag post....i'm just in my own little world these days (apologies)...been so busy i honestly forgot the 4th was right around the corner.....d'oh
  • 4th of July or not I think it's pretty annoying. I know it's the city, and noise is part of life, but fireworks are dangerous and loud, and they terrify my dog... They really make my life shitty at this time of year.
  • i hate fireworks, you guys get it lucky, in the ghettos and working class areas they blast this stuff weeks before july 4th. and during july 4th. i don't leave my block too dangerous. fire works every where.
  • Well, if you live in the North Slope and you hate fireworks you may want to leave town for July 4th. I have it on good authority that this year is going to blow last year away (no pun intended). And they'll be coming from 4th Ave and 6-7th Aves. Fortunately my dogs have ceased being afraid of fireworks for the reason armchair mentioned.

sloper, how dare you not remember the 4th is coming soon! What, do you have some kind of "life" or something that made you forget?
  • last nite they had an outdoor movie (ET) in P Park and they did a few fireworks. that's what you heard...

nope, ET was postponed because of rain. haven't announced the new date yet. i was gonna go!
  • it rained last nite?
  • no, they cancelled it earlier in the day on reports that it was going to rain.
  • hey, maybe...i heard that a tree on 5th st went down. b/4 it went down folks heard all this crackling noise from the trunk breaking..could that be what you heard? i think part of me wants to deny any possibilities that it be gun shots!

Guess that's why the police don't bother stopping it here. They have other places to go where it's worse... Still, I find it strange that people can so blatantly disregard the law in such a public way and get away with it.

i don't think anyone's saying it was gunshots. the determination seems to be fireworks. though i'd be more afraid of a tree falling!! gunshots are much less random in target than trees.

Well, other than the thread title being "gun shots??", lol!

But yah, consensus seems to be fireworks. There seems to be an upswing of them at Brower Park on my side of the world as of late, FWIW.
  • Hmm... Last night (the 26th) I didn't hear anything, but my dog was terrified to go out. Maybe he heard the tree falling? Anyone know what block of 5th street?

I guess it's because I'm on the top floor of my building, but I can always see these fireworks. Yesterday a couple things happened. A neighbor of 5th ave took down a dead tree in their back yard. It was a hilarious sight as both the owner and this guy he hired off the street had no idea what they were doing. It was like an episode of jackass or something. I kept waiting for someone to get hurt.

A little later someone shot off a bunch of really great fireworks off of 5th ave again. They were really high in the air. I can't believe no one saw them but me :?
  • My neighbors were firing them off of the top of their building last night at 4th Ave. and Union. It was the second night in a row. It's definitely more enjoyable than watching them shoot rats with their paintball guns.
  • Ok before all ya'll white folk start freekin out, YES THAT WAS FIREWORKS you just heard (6/27). Now back to our regularly scheduled post.....
