NYU Grad. Journalism Student looking for help with article

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
Hi. I'm a graduate Journalism student at NYU, and I'm writing an article about the proposed Nets arena in Brooklyn. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me out with the article by giving me a comment about the project - whether you are for or against it, and why.

Please only write back if you're willing to give me your full name, and the neighborhood in which you live (Prospect Heights, Park Slope etc.), otherwise I can't use your comment. And I know most people are reluctant to give their ages, but if you'd be willing to do that too, it would be great, though not necessary.

Thanks!

You should be manning the barricades on the strike, you scab.
  • we're striking our JOBS not our ASSIGNMENTS--and it depends on the department, the specific deal you've been offered, whether you're teaching that semester or not...

I would offer to write, but I don't really know enough to have a well-reasoned opinion beyond, well, the vulgar. that, and I am horribly underslept.

You should try to contact someone from the organizations that sit on the Community Benefits Agreement for the Atlantic Yards project.

For a few bucks they'll say whatever you want them to say.

I'm not talking about BUILD. The other groups are not taking money from Ratner. You should try to get to know them and express your concerns.

How about ACORN? You could offer them half a twenty and they'd walk off with $6.

all the CBA groups are admittedly getting money from Ratner.
  • Subject: it's not just a proposed Nets arena, OK?

unless you're writing about why the arena would be the most expensive ever (a good topic, actually), you're writing about the proposed Atlantic Yards project, which is an arena + 16 buildings, nearly all housing, and mostly luxury housing. Start at nolandgrab.org to get yourself educated.
  • Go to Freddy's bar and talk with the folks there...

No not all groups. Acorn and Build gave the CBA a bad name. Some of the groups are very community orientated and they really do want to see something good come out of this. Most of you A S S E S have only been in the area for 5 - 10 years and although that seems like a long time its not. Where were you 20 and 30 years ago when some of these same groups were fighting for the communities surrounding this project. You need to face the facts its a done deal. Tish can have all of the private meetings at Lucy's house but at the end of the day she (Tish) and Roger come together on this project and try to come to a medium. She can then tell her supporters that she tried and still come out a winner.
  • My feeling is that Tish is using this issue to groom herself for a future run for public advocate. She's term-limited and will need a job in a few years.

Guess what? I've been in Prospect Heights for only three years, and my vote counts just as much as yours. This also is my HOME just as much as it is yours. Stop calling people names and try being a more welcoming neighbor.

    Regards,

    James

actually, you "ass," all of the signers of the CBA have admitted that they get money from Ratner.

do we need to "face facts" because its a "done deal?" You need to face facts that you have no clue about what is done or not done. there is nothing done about this project. you are kidding yourself if you believe that and buying into Ratner's hype. its been a done deal since day one with him and his sychophants. you know why? because Forest City Ratner and Frank Gehry believe they are "creating a neighbhorhood from scratch" in their vision and that their buddies bloomberg and pataki support them. unfortunately, for them, there is a neighbhorhood here already that is telling them to go screw themselves, that they can't just come in our neighborhoods and run roughshod over them in their image. Who are THEY to tell us what we want. That is why various communities are waging one of the great development battles in the city's history. done deal? you think so? good, keep thinking so.

as for being here 20 or 30 years ago: first, why does that matter? second, NONE of these groups who support the project or signed the CBA were around 20 or 30 years ago, and 5 of the 8 CBA signers weren't even around one year ago. with your logic then, they must all keep their mouths shut and they should not have signed the CBA because they have not been around here long enough to your liking.

you need to face facts buddy.

So let's hear about them. Tell me what they fought for, and tell me what they are fighting for now.

Do some research on the Staples Center's Community Benefit Agreement that was signed in Los Angeles. It was a transparent process that involved a far more diverse group of participants, including organizations who were opposed to the project.

"Guest" - You're not persuading anyone about your case, when you call us "asses."
