Really really really bad experience at Fuel on 5th — Brooklynian

Really really really bad experience at Fuel on 5th

My boyfriend and I have ordered from Fuel on 5th ave a bunch of times with no problems.

I just went to eat a leftover half of a wrap (from yesterday) when something felt weird in the bite...i spit it out and there was an entire NON-FOOD critter in there. A WHOLE ONE ALL MASHED UP BECAUSE I WAS CHEWING IT

After i got done dry heaving, flossing, brushing my teeth 100 times I called Fuel and they told me they would send me another one but couldn't refund me. I don't know aht I wanted, but the dude totally sounded like he didn't believe me. I offered to bring the half-chewed bite with the evidence and he said that he still couldn't refund me (I even have my delivery reciept from yesterday.)

So yeah. NO WORDS.

I'm going to go puke now. I don't know if this is against the rules a la stone park but i'm so disgusted i felt obligated to post.

  • ick.

drink some tequila. should kill all of the ick.
  • You sure you didn't ask for the protein blast?

    Scary.

    And ew.
  • dude
it was all SMASHED UP. I swear i feel legs in my teeth

    *gag*

ugh. I'm going to drink some scotch, good idea...
  • Wow, wait where is Fuel, I've never been there... and wont now :puker: :pukel:

I wouldn't care about the refund, as much as the guy not being apologetic on the phone. Customer service man, at least pretend you care about the people you service.

Oh yeah and gargle for whiskey now!!
  • I didnt even really want a refund but dude, this is seriously fucking disgusting. It was WHOLE. Like it was taking a vacation in with my mushrooms. OMFG ughhhhhaaahhhh.

At least people eat them in some countries so I know it wont kill me. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
  • What sort of critter, and of what size are we talking about.

    Morbid curiousity.
  • roach, about the an inch and a half long. like normal nyc roaches.
    ughhhh
  • I just choked on my sandwich in solidarity with you Carmen. As an Irish girl I can tell you that whiskey is good for anything that ails you or wish to forget.
  • That is pretty fucking disgustipating.
  • i actually opted for patron and a lime. omg.

and you know I understand that theres bugs everywhere but the dude basically hung up on me and was just like "well i'll send you another one but thats all i can do" and I tried to keep explaining that i worked in the food industry and im not trying to be a pain in the as and he's like..."ok ok..." then he hung up.

    wtf. gaagggggggg
  • It's a waterbug, not a roach!!
  • Yep I did happen to have a "Fuel" menu at home. In the recycling bin now.

Thanks for the heads up. Sorry about your little friend.
  • Is this something that be reported to 311 and have sanitation check out the place? Seems warrented to me...
Carmen, I'm sorry you had to go through that. And I'm really really glad I just finished eating before i read this thread... of course, now I feel queasy...
  • Should I call 311? I still have the wrap (although i buried it in the trash bc i was so grossed out.)
  • I would call. An inch and half roach in a sandwich seems like a reasonably big deal to me. Couple that with their non-plussed attitude, and it seems to me that a complaint inspection might be in order. Perhaps it was an isolated incident. But maybe they are infested.
  • i think you should take the wrap and the roach and walk down there and ask for the f'ing manager. that's what i would do. and i would speak very loudly
  • Wow gross. So sorry you went through that- I think I just experienced it with a shiver and a wave of nausea, but I can only imagine.
Pass the tequila, over here. :pale:
  • ok im calming down now and am starving...im scared to order takeout though! I may be scarred for life.
  • carmen, walk over to olive vine and get some lentil soup with the half a lime. it will clean your palette
  • Ooo olive vine is tasty. I think I'll be saying away from anything I can't fork or spoon through for a while.
  • You really should call 311 though... even though you've warned us all to stay away, others may not be so lucky!
  • Sorry, wrong FUEL

This is a handy web-site though.

WARNING: Do not look up places you like eating at here :)

This is the right one. Their last inspection was back in September, and they passed, but...
4.) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to vermin exist.
5.) Evidence of flying insects or live flying insects present in facility's food and/or non-food areas.
6.) Evidence of mice or live mice present in facility's food and/or non-food areas.
  • I really don't get how places with insects and mice "evident" manage to pass... yuck. (I know this severely limits my dining out choices if I pay attention to this website and only eat at places without violations, but still... it really disgusts me.)
  • Ugh vomitous. My roommate and I always try to visit the actual restaurant before we order takeout from a menu that landed on our steps. In this case we have had the Fuel menu but never went by and so never ordered. Recycle bin here it comes.

Ugh that f-ing blows. Poor Carmen. Meet me for a strong one after work!!!!!!!!!! A nice vat of something perhaps?
  • Call the department of health! Maybe they will take it seriously and this will not occur again.

  • Uhem.... foot tapping... err am I invited to this lush fest :-'
