Italian Restaurant Coming to Cocette Space — Brooklynian

Italian Restaurant Coming to Cocette Space

edited November -1 in Park Slope
Walked by the old Coccette space today and spoke to the owner and chef of the new restaurant going in there, they were airing the place out and planning renovation. North to South Italian cuisine, opening probably 2 months away. About time we got rid of that boarded up window!

  • Another Italian place? Nobody likes Western or Eastern African?
  • Oh no! Competition for Aunt Suzie's!

  • I think Park Slope needs a San Marino or Andorran restaurant.
  • Wow, this is getting pathetic. I'm beginning to think these restaurant people have never had an original idea. Can't wait to see how this one is going to be so different from all the others!

    Al Di La Trattoria

    Convivium Osteria

    La Villa

    Peperoncino

    Scottadito

    Sette

    Sotto Voce

    Tonio's

    Trattoria Mangia

    Trattoria Mulino

    Tutta Pasta

    Scalino

    Aperitivo

Oh, and the restaurant that must not be named.

    Brilliant.
  • don't forget the soon to open italian restaurant owned by the same people as apertivo. it's going in right across from 'snice on 5th avenue. i walked by yesterday and it looks like they're not far from opening...

literally blocks away from this new joint.

i wouldn't complain if some of these places were GOOD. besides al di la and convivium, i can sort of take the rest or leave them.

i do love po though on smith street too...

    Or GOOD Indian.

    Or GOOD Indian.

    You can't handle good Indian!
  • I would love to have a good indian resturant in the area.
  • Convivium is not an Italian restaurant. But no matter because that long list is long enough without that one place included.
  • Idlewild wrote: I think Park Slope needs a San Marino or Andorran restaurant.
What Park Slope really needs is a good and decent spanish (from Spain) restaurant with paella, seafood, fresh fish, etc... This would make the difference.
  • Well, I would word it a little differently, like what we don't need is another mediocre Italian restaurant! Let's count the really good Italian restaurant...

OK, 1, al di la, 2 - er, 2, ...oh there aren't any others.

And, I agree Convivium isn't an Italian restaurant - it's equal parts Italy, Spain, and Portugal. But excellent not-in-PS Franny's is about 75% Italian with superb pastas and pizzas and apps.

I'm too exhausted to go over the sushi list.

    Uh huh.

I think some restaurant owners have a fear of frying Park Sloper's tongues with "exotic ethnic" flavors. Every single damn time I order some dish called "Hot and Spicy" something from any place, the person taking my order stops and warns me..."this dish is spicy...that OK?" DUH.

We could use more: sea food (i.e. crab shack), Korean, Cambodian, kosher vegetarian Indian, Southern Indian, Vietnamese, Japanese bar-b-q, Armenian, Israeli, Greek, Syrian....

Best of all would be an excellent deli with premade meals -- a hot and cold "salad" bar where you grab a box and throw all your food in yourself.
  • I'm still waiting for one of those salad places where you tell the guy "some artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes, blue cheese, croutons, balsamic vinagrette" and he picks them all and tosses them for you.

That would be awesome! I haven't been able to find a really good salad in PS for years.
  • They're all over Manhattan. I can't imagine why there aren't more here (somebody mentioned ONE in PS, and it was some random place I've never noticed or been in before)

Yes, these types of make-your-own-meal/hot-and-cold-meal/salad bar places are all over Manhattan. Why can't we have one? I have yet to see anything like this in Park Slope -- and the deli sections of Key Food and Union Market do not count.

Seriously....between Cosi, Pax, Tossed (heehee...Tossed Salad) and a million other places, I'm amazed there aren't a few over here....not that I want a(nother) chain, but it seems relatively simple to do
  • OMG, I would go nuts for a good salad place. It seems like such a good idea - so many people in the nabe work at home and a place like that would be great to duck out to (get some air, some light, and a salad) for a few minutes before hunkering back down again.
  • We can only hope that anybody thinking of opening a new place will read this board first :-)
  • i can't think of the name of it, but there is salad place like this on smith street, which is really good. a little expensive (as these make your own salad places tend to be) but i really like this place and would frequent them a ton if they were in the slope.

i do have to say that freshnyc on 5th has some really good salad options...i had a beet salad there that was fantastic.
  • We need a Cuban restaurant the likes of which there's barely a handful of in New York City and, by that, I mean a REAL Cuban restaurant.

Manhattan has Cuba on Thompson St., Havana Alma De Cuba on Christopher St., and a few other places I've heard about, but haven't tried yet. None of this Havana Central or Cubana Cafe garbage.

Put something on that block as good as the forementioned, or as good as some Jersey spots, and you've got one of the most popular restaurants in the 'hood.

I spoke once to the owner of a pretty decent Cuban place in New Haven, and his eyes lit up when I mentioned "you should open in Brooklyn." he then went and opened in Hawaii instead. Can't say I blame him.

Enough Italian spots. The last thing I'd want to open in this neighborhood would be an Italian restaurant. You will never, ever be Al Di La.

    Miro Cafe in Soho :D
  • there is a real, honest-to-goodness spanish place on 14th/6th, right across from the community garden.

and what the nabe needs, and surprisingly doesn't have, is a deli. with good pickles and pastrami sandwiches and matzoh ball soup.
  • There was a traditional Jewish-type deli on 7th Avenue for a couple of years. It closed a few years ago. I liked it a lot, but it was rarely crowded, and finally closed down.

*original post deleted, and my apologies*

my thoughts on a jewish deli-type place is that so much of that is about history to me. having a pastrami sandwich somewhere other than a Katz would just seem wrong.
  • Wow. I'm fairly certain it was a reply to the person who posted "we need a Spanish (from Spain) restaurant" several posts above yours. Still a bit early in the morning for ya?

maybe a bit early. i appreciate the correction and have edited the post. my apologies.
  • There is one place in PS that does salads like you describe - Luscious on 5th between Bergen & St Marks. I haven't had one, but I've had their other food and it is very tasty.
