Union Hall - non-controversy thread

You know, all the attention for Union Hall is on the no strollers thing or the too loud for the neighborhood thing which distracts from the fact that the place sort of sucks. It's too loud, too crowded (and a lame crowd at that), too long of a bar so the service blows, their pints are all chipped, and the food is bad....

i love union hall. the bocce is fun, the outdoor area is nice and they have some really terrific bands come through that place.

i don't go to a bar to eat the food, so not ever experienced that part of it.

Union Hall Pros = bocce, consistent good comedy, occasionally good bands, different types of entertaining events....

Union Hall Cons = only two bocce courts, basement where the entertainment happens has a VERY LOW ceiling, seating arrangements on main floor are awkward, overpriced drinks, unable to buy tickets for events in advance, icky food....


When it comes to bars with entertainment, I prefer Barbes, but sometimes Barbes smells like urine.

And it looks like Puppets Jazz is dead.

Union Hall is fantastic. The downstairs is a great space, and I have seen so many great shows down there, for just a few bucks. David Cross, Name That Tune, Karaoke on New Year's, I love that place. It's a boon for the neighborhood.

Union Hall is the only place in Park Slope where I actually seem to meet and talk to (seemingly normal) single men.

Also the new bouncers they have are super nice and friendly (at least to me and my friends)..

What's wrong with their pour? You could offer some advice. If they aren't dillweeds they may be receptive. When I used to go to bars I taught more than one bartender to pour a black and tan correctly. Or at least passably.

I'm not a bartender, so I have no idea what they're doing wrong. At every other place I've had one, it comes out creamy and foamy and delicious. At Union Hall, it comes out clear with no Guiness-like bubbles. I've been there a few times and don't plan on going back any time soon, so offering advice to their bartenders isn't really high on my priority list.

I love the entertainment downstairs, but I'd have to be 3 feet tall before I would agree that it' a great space. It's an OK space.

Yeah, the Bowery Ballroom is a great space. Union Hall ain't the Bowery Ballroom.
