optimum online

So I've had Optimum Online for 6 months at 29.95 and now they're attempting to start charging me 60, which technically I guess isn't considered a bait and switch though I feel cheated as if it were one...

Anyway, has anyone successfully argued that price down? Or do you just go along with it? Just wondering because I can't imagine being the only one bugged by this pricing arrangement.

Also, I don't have the packaged plan of internet/cable/landline.

  • Do you have a room mate/significant other ?

If so get a new connection on their name. When they call in, they should say they are moving in on a certain date, and you should call and ask for your service to be turned off a day before that date.

You may land up with no internet for a couple of days at the most if you time it all well.

I have cable internet via earthlink at 29.99 for a whole year. However the actual line is provided by TWC.
  • nah, no room mates or SOs live with me...

i might switch to earthlink though. sounds enticing.
  • If you call up, ask for the retention department, and tell them that you want to cancel b/c the non-promotional rate is too expensive they'll probably offer you a $10/mo credit against the new higher rate. But only for two months.

I haven't had a chance to call up and see if they'll do it again now that my two months is up.
