Place to buy a insecticide bomb...

I tried rite-aid, cvs and steve's c-town, no luck. Anyone know where I can buy a "bug bomb"? I'm moving into a new apt and figured I'd just hit it before I get unpacked since it's convenient...

  • hardware store?
  • see this is why im retarded- because I don't think of these things. I wonder if that Ace-ish hardware on 7th would have them... I really don't feel like trekking down to lowes although im sure they sell them there.
  • Try Leopoldi's Hardware on 5th Ave, between 7 & 8 Street. It is a family owned, old fashioned hardware store. Everyone is extremely helpful.
  • We had a super who was a dirt bag and eventually was fired .
The new super moved in and was stunned by the amount of roaches in the apartment and set off a bug bomb, but forgot to seal off the apartment door.
He said there was an exodus of a couple of hundred roaches fleeing his apartment and right into the apartment next door.

That left a great impression with his new neighbor.

So if you set off the bomb seal off your door and live happily ever after.
  • I don't think there's actually any bugs in there, I haven't seen evidence of any, im just being paranoid I think.
  • Yo! Did you call Radar the bed bug sniffing beagle yet? :?:

I'd offer to pick you some up from Home Depot by my work, but I'm housesitting in CG and won't be back in the nabe until Friday.

Some of those 99 cent stores have them too and they are just as good as the big name ones.

Don't forget to turn off the gas before you do it!!!!!!!!!!

I was going to mention something like this. If your in an an apartment with an infestation, if you don't coordinate your bombs with your suronding neighbors, your fighting a loosing battle.

Some things to do after you bomb, if you want to. Bombs are nasty things. Consider you health and make sure you wont react to any of the chemicals.

There are tons of natural ways to keep the critters at bay. Boric Acid is the first thing that comes to mind. It doesn't look good, but if you keep it up you can tone it down once you figure out how it works. Put little beads of it in the corners along the walls. This includes cabinets and closets. All crawling insects, well pretty much anything with whiskers and antenna walk along the walls. The inscects pick up the boric acid on thier feet. Roaches, being one of the most hygenic, are constantly cleaning, and will ingest it and it cuts up their guts. Soon the rest of teh colony will associate you with death and won't bother you. Don't sleep and fall off, they will send out sacrificial lambs.
Also works for fleas and ants. Use chalk for ants. They wont cross a chalk line. Try it out. They don't like black pepper, garlic or onions. Pretty much anything that stinks to us, stinks to them. That goes for mosquitos. Mosqitoes dont like lavendar either, so you can smell could and walk through the forest. Eat more garlic and onions in the summer.
If you do get stung, put a lil dab of ammonia. Stops the itch quick.

    Google is your friend.
  • You're not paranoid, Carmen, for wanting to make a tiny effort to remove what could be a potentially huge problem that takes infinitely more effort to combat.

We knew the apartment we were moving into this past september (the one we're in now) looked clean enough, etc, but my girlfriend is deathly afraid of waterbugs (and I mean totally batshit-crazy, super-illogical, screaming bloody murder & trembling so much she can't speak AFRAID), so we talked to our wonderful landlords (awesome, awesome couple) prior to signing the lease, and they added a clause that required them to send out an exterminate on their dime if we ever felt we needed one.

There was a little but of push back when we first asked kindly to have one sent here, but when we spotted 3 "visitors" in 3 weeks, we were pretty wound up about it, so they obliged.

Combined with their spraying, and my own effort (11 poison bait traps, 4 sticky traps, a good doorsweep for the front door, and lots of strategically-placed boric acid), we haven't seen once since, and it's been about a month. Fortunately, we've never seen a single German one in here, only the big scary American.

I'm planning on filling as many cracks and holes with caulk and that expanding foam stuff when I get the chance, but I have a feeling it will take one more sighting to encourage me.

Anyway, blah blah blah, good luck.
  • This won't work for bedbugs, just so you know.

    Also Target should have something.
