  • It's a terrible shame that we had to dis-allow guest posting, for all the reasons that Chris said. Guest posting should be allowed. The reason why it was shut down is because nobody (currently) has the time to police the board to the degree that is necessary when open comments are allowed.

We're going to revisit this issue in 2006... Banning guest posting is wildly popular with regular message board users, but sorry guys, without question, it really does shut out a lot of important voices from the discussion.
  • was it this slow before the no guest posting went into effect?

I think this is more due to the holiday season.
  • ah makes sense.

He said he has been reading the board since April

Right, but what I mean is that if he had been reading regularly since April, he would probably have a sense of how disruptive the anonymice have been.
  • By my own best guestimate I have read all, or part, of more than 100 threads on Dailyheights. (In other words daily reading in recent months, weekly before that) And while I must say I thought that I had seen my fair share of anonymous foolery, I guess by the judgment of some, I have not -- my apologies.

I also regret calling the Registration move 'short-sighted' since it has obviously been wrestled with considerably.

Either way, I only wanted to keep the issue alive and I am glad to see it will be revisited in 2006.
  • Screw revisiting, this was the best thing to happen to the board all year. Registration is SOOOOO simple. Get a grip guests and spend a few minutes signing up at your community message board.
  • The idea of "important voices" being lost is gainsaying, whereas we know for a fact how disruptive guest posting is. Don't look back. Things are way better now. Thanks again, Andy.
  • if its important ;) voices. they would take the time to sign up right :P. hehe

again, I haven't heard an explanation for how requiring registration "shuts out" "important voices".
