Sh!t- local PC comp person needed STAT

carmen
edited November -1 in Park Slope
My work computer (a lenovo thinkpad) has been acting a little loopy for months and finally bit it today. This is a very big problem as A) I need it to work and B) apparently the last scheduled backup was completed in MARCH (!!!)

I think the hard-drive is ok as it's booting into recovery fine, but its not recognizing my external harddrive to dump all my new files. I need help STAT. I can't go somewhere to send it out as I need it to work on Monday. Does anyone have experience with any PC people in the slope?! I have the sneaking suspicion a windows reinstall is going to be needed but I'd reallllly like to save my files ahead of time as I've got a ton of stuff on there...

halp :(

  • The Microchip Cafe (1st street just below 7th Avenue) may be able to help you.

  • I will call them- I'm currently running a semi restore (only OS, not complete hard-drive and files) so we'll see how that goes in about an hour. I am so frustrated....I desperately wanted to be doing FUN stuff today and comp troubleshooting makes me want to cry.

    Thanks for the number :)
  • Let me know if you need a name/number. My computer guy is great but I think he is in church for most of the day on Sundays.

Is this a new "faith-based" approach to computer repair?
  • ok its official- i need help. Anyone have any more numbers? That microchip place isn't answering the phone (despite my compulsive redialing...)

i don't think they exist anymore. i think their old place is a Psychic reading establishment (if you can call that an establishment) now.
  • Subject: Computer repair

    try this guy: Mike Jonas

I've used him multiple times and find him excellend. He just had a baby, though, so may be off showing her off to the relatives in England.
  • I just sent you my guy's info via "pm". Good luck!
  • Thanks for everyone who sent numbers, if I end up giving in and calling someone I'll letcha know :)
  • Can't vouch for them, but there is a new place opening up on Prospect and 7th Ave.
  • Microchip Cafe does exist - they're on 4th Avenue between 8th & 9th Streets...they were probabably closed on Sunday
  • Alright I actually finally managed to fix everything myself (if anyone ever has a problem with Vista feel free to PM me, I feel like I've run across every imaginable problem with it...) I'm glad this thread exists though, next time I might not have the mental tenacity to mess with it for three days.
