looking for kind person to foster cats for a week

A small group of people have been trapping cats on Eastern Parkway by the museum. We were originally trying to get a cute little calico who hung out there - finally got her yesterday - but we also ended up with two gray males who have feline leukemia. They are being taken to a group home on jan. 1, but we're looking for a kind person to foster them until then, because right now they are boarding at the vet and they're scared and sad. Here's our little prepared statement about them, with photos:

Two lovely, though slightly battered, male gray tabby street cats, around two years old, were rescued from the cold on Eastern Parkway last week. Both have been neutered, vaccinated and fixed up (one had a bad wound on his paw and had to have part of a toe amputated). They're obviously not from the street originally (they know how to use the kitty litter, and though they're hesitant, scared and sad, they seem to like being touched), and despite the fact that somebody must have thrown them out, they aren't holding it against the rest of us -- they are very good tempered guys. Both really want loving homes!

The catch is that they have feline leukemia. Cats with feline leukemia can live long, happy lives (google it for more information), but because it’s contagious to cats (NOT to people, dogs or other animals), they can’t be with normal healthy cats, just with other leukemia cats (or dogs or other pets). They don’t need any special care – just need to avoid stress, but that’s true of any cat!

These two will be taken to a group home in Pennsylvania for cats with their disease, which is not the best solution but better than being on the street. But until then they are boarding at the vet’s, which is really scary for them. So we are hoping someone will consider fostering one or both of them until January 1, when they’ll be driven to PA.

This would be a really good Christmas/Hanukah/Kwanzaa deed! These guys need a lot of love and patience to help them thaw out and let their personalities shine through. A week of a home is much better than a week in a cage. And of course, if you decide you really like them, there’s always the option of keeping them.

We’ll provide kitty litter, litter boxes, food, etc. You just need to provide the space and the love!
