Jewelry supplies/bead stores — Brooklynian

Jewelry supplies/bead stores

Can any one recommend a bead store and/or jewelry supply store? When I worked in manhattan, I would often stop in at NYC Beads on the way home, but were pretty expensive and now, a little tricky to get to.

  • I don't know of any Bklyn places, but there is one in midtown that I like. It's called Toho Shoji. It's on 6th Ave bet 36th and 37th. The phone number is (212) 967-2088 and the website is www.tohoshoji-ny.com/

There's also Beads of Paradise in Union Sq. which can be pricey.
  • There's also Brooklyn Bead Box on Smith St...I haven't shopped there and can't comment on pricing, but they always seem to have nice examples of jewelry projects in the windows.

    Here is their site: www.brooklynbeadbox.com
  • thanks!

hello. have you find your satisfying jewelry? it is my pity to see your infor so late. i know an online store who is engaged in the jewelry supplies, including various beads. so if you are in need now, i hope this can be useful to you. here is their site : www.8season-supplies.com
  • I am a beadwork artist and the Brooklyn bead store scene is lacking to say the least. The place on Smith street is an expensive and limited retail place for the novice hobbyist. Don't even waste your time. However, if you are into interesting vintage beads/swarovski, there is a real cool place on union street near columbia in red hook called union max. Go there when you are in the mood to dig for a few hours. Great fun. http://www.modebeads.com/ is a major importer/wholesaler of mostly Czech stuff. They are way out on 4th ave in bay Ridge. Thing is if you are going to go all the way out there you may as well go to the city. As for the city, there is a similar but slightly better store to NYC Beads on Bway by 37th called Beads World. What kind of beads are you looking for? Seeds? Pearls? Glass? Stone? What type of quantities? I have alot of surplus stock of czech seeds inc charlottes and czech firepolish and vintage glass cabochons that i would love to liquidate some of. Feel free to pm me.
  • A friend of mine makes her own jewelry and she told me about this place in midtown

she said they also have some jewelry making classes sometimes.

There is another place that had some beautiful stones and beads near 14th Street in the city. I think its across the street from Paragon sports or down the block from it.
