I just read in the Residential Internet in Park Slope! Tell YOUR Story thread about a creative and fun way to get a live person on the line when calling the cable company.

However, there is a much more reliable (and equally free) method that works for most of the large companies whose automated telephone answering systems drive us crazy: www.gethuman.com/.

This site gives instructions for instantly getting out of answering system hell and getting a real person on the line, which vary from company to company.

I usually check this site before calling Sprint, Time Warner Cable, Verizon, etc., to find the secret for each of their systems. It almost always works.
