Hotel LeBlue Lounge — Brooklynian

Hotel LeBlue Lounge

edited November -1 in Park Slope
I live in the Gowanus/Park Slope DMZ and was sort of looking forward to having a place to go with a nice view and overpriced cocktails. Does anyone know when LeBlue is planning on actually opening their lounge. First it was Late Fall, then Early Winter, then Spring, it's now almost Fall again and I've heard nothing, and I feel like I would have heard on one of the local blogs had they actually opened.

  • Whats the deal with that hotel anyway? Is it nice? Its kind of weird being slapped in between all the jiffylubes and carwashes (that is the one on 4th, right?)
  • That's the one, my parents stayed their once when they were in town to visit, kind of bizarre layouts in that the shower was glass enclosed and jutted out into the room, but had a curtain you could drag around it, and the bathroom didn't really offer any privacy. Apart from that ikea-esque decor, and a nice view of the statue of liberty from the little balcony.
  • It is in an odd location. Can't imagine what people think when they pull up to this place. The rooms look really nice though, even the bathroom.

    Lounge Info:

    A restaurant. A lounge.
    An experience. (Opening Summer 2008)

Experience Vue. The new haunt of New York’s chic set.

From its lofty perch on the 8th & 9th floors, take in the spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline and Statue Of Liberty as you enjoy specialty cocktails and fine inter-continental cuisine amidst inimitable style and elegance.

You can also enjoy Vue’s extensive menu of specialties in the privacy of your guest room via room service.

  • Yikes..did you check out room rates? I put in a couple of days in the middle of September and the base room is $378 per night. The website looks cool and the pictures are nice, but it could be a mild shock if someone from out of town checked in there and was thinking the neighborhood would be a little bit less transitional.
  • As far as le Vue...or whatever it will be called...it's a ways out. They're still under construction for the most part.

As far as I can tell, from the brief conversations with managers, the restaurant/Lounge and hotel will not be directly affiliated, apart from the retaurant leasing from the hotel.

A superb location and ambiance for truckers and callgirls!

Nearly $400 is nothing if you get to sleep that close to Jiffy Lub AND a car wash!

Notice how http://www.hotellebleu.com/html/explore.htm claims that "It's the Big Apple. Take a big bite" for naive tourists to assume that Hotel Le Bleu is in midtown Manhattan or has reliable, fast transportation to Manhattan? The last time I took a cab from 6th St and 4th Ave in Brooklyn to lower Manhattan it cost $30 and took 60 minutes one way. The M, R, and F trains stink. The 5th Avenue bus is so so if it ever shows up.

It's actually not really close to either..

Staples and a nephrology clinic, however...
  • if you're getting charged 30 bucks for a cab from this location to lower manhattan you are getting taken for a RIDE.

it's 14 dollars not including tip from my north slope location to the east village, 16 to chelsea and about 15 to soho.

    done it many times.

    i always usually give a 20.
  • no idea about the lounge.

my brother in law and his wife stayed there a few nights earlier this year, got a pretty good rate at $100+/night. the hotel was new, and everything was clean and nice, and it has that modern design feel, and a decent size room. but the location is a little odd though.
  • Relatives recently paid $325/night for the Holiday Inn Express on Union, so Le Bleu doesn't seem like such a bad deal.
  • Subject: Nu Hotel

there is also a new hotel, called Nu Hotel, on the corner of Smith and Atlantic with similar rates. There you are closer to lower manhattan and lots of dining options and your choice of subway lines. But at the Nu Hotel the view is of the Brooklyn Jail.
