Anyone Interested in Starting a Bed-Stuy TNR group?

I recently moved into the area and like many of you see way too many kitties on the streets. Most people in my area anyway seem to be kind to them and leave them out food to eat. The problem is no one is getting them neutered/spay.

I have taken the TNR class - which means trap, neuter, release if you don't already know - through Neighborhood Cats and have done numerous successful TNR's in my old neighborhood. If there are other TNR people around I would be interested in working together as it can be time consuming and frustrating to try to TNR a whole area alone.

If you aren't trainied in TNR and would like to be I can help with that too as Neighborhood Cats often offers free classes and if enough people are interested maybe they can teach one in Bed-Stuy!

I have rescued 3 cats - one adult, two kittens and gotten two shop cats fixed through the ASPCA's services but would like to do more. I am not looking to do more rescue at this point as I have a full plate right now but still want to do TNR. I could coordinate if others are avilable for the rescue side of things.

If your not sure but want to know more this is a good link to some frequently asked TNR questions: http://www.animalalliancenyc.org/nycfci/info-faq.php#2

Thanks,

Alana

  • I think that's a great idea. I don't want to be trained in TNR b/c I don't like/am afraid of cats, but a woman in the brownstone feeds the kitties and there's a cat and her kitten who pretty much live by our stoop. PM me if you're interested in TNR'ing them :-)
  • Great idea! I PM'd you with some people that are already doing TNR and rescue work in Bed-Stuy. I'm sure that they would love to join forces.
  • Subject: TNR in Bed stuy

Hi, I'm in Bed stuy also. I've been doing rescue for the past two years and would like to do more tnr. I know of a location now that needs a big tnr effort. there are 12-18 cats that keep having babies.

I would love to have a group of people who work together to do this on an ongoing basis.

I have one cage and a basement where I can hold a couple of cats when I don't have other cats there ( I have one right now for whom I am trying to find a home). There are also people through Urban Cat League that can provide additional support/contacts with others. I'm wondering if we can create a Bed-Stuy group through this site.

    Best,
