  • GOOD MORNING ALL. HOPE EVERYONE HAD A GOOD WEEKEND. I WENT TO THE METS/PHILLIES GAMES 8:05 LAST NITE. THE METS WON 6-3. IT WAS WILD. LOTS OF PHILLY FANS AROUND US, GOT LOUDAT TIMES. 2 SECTIONS AWAY FROM WHERE WE SAT, THERE WAS PROBABLY AT LEAST 3-4 FIGHTS. PUNCHES WERE THROWN, SECUTIRY GUARDS CAME UP IN NUMBERS AND EJECTED METS & PHILLY FANS OUT OF THE PARK. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO WATCH. IT WAS EITHER THE GAME, OR THE BOXING MATCHES AROUND ME. IT WAS WILD. YOU HAD TO BE THERE.
  • OH, AND ALSO 6 GUYS THAT SAT IN FRONT OF ME AND MY FAMILY HAD ON SHIRTS THAT READ'" PHUCK THE FILLIES" SPELLED like that and of course, what Else, they were seated right next to the philly fans in front of us. 20 minutes before the games was to begin, they started getting loud with each other, and than the philly fans in back of us started in. I HAD TO TELL THE GUYS TO CALM IT W/THEIR LANGUAGE, I HAD MY 13 YEAR OLD WITH ME. WHAT A GAME. WHAT A NIGHT. by the seventh inning the guys in fron with the PHILLY SHIRTS STARTED TO CHANT :BEAT THE TRAFFIC, BEAT THE TRAFFIC". BEST PART WAS PHILLY FANS STARTED TO LEAVE BY THAT TIME. I'M SURPRISED THE FANS IN FRONT OF ME AND IN BACK OF ME DID NOT CAUSE A RIOT. "LET'S GO METS"

  • I spent a good part of yesterday reading the Park-Slope page. I too went to ST. John the Evangelist. I grew up on 21st Street (214-21 St.) between 4th & 5th. My house was across from DeLuca's soda. I really enjoyed reading old family names like Angelo, The Tombascos (Marion and I were not only class mates, but we were born at the same hospital a few days apart (May babies) and our Mothers were friends), the Gagliardis, Bonavita (Karen & I were in the same class - and then both went to John Jay (I called for her every morning at 7:37am.....I was also hoping to see Angela Miele (saw Charlie, Patsy and Carol) Angela and I were best friends. I also loved hanging out at Connie's house on 20th Street (the one with the big tree out front!). Some people mentioned Tobin's furniture store and if you bought anything there it was sure to have been delivered by my grandfather, Paul (Approbato)! Someone also mentioned the Piccone brothers. They are Eugene (early 50's), Thomas (47) he was in my class as well, and little Billy (41). I hope that some of the gang remember me and get in touch. Thanks for all the good memories. And yes, Nilda , you cut my hair as well!!!lol
  • I sent my check but I have a feeling that it may be returned to me by the PO since it had a 41 cent stamp on it. I bought a 1 cent stamp to add to it but when I left it in a rented car, they mailed itt for me !!! Soooooooooo, maybe the PO will not catch it or I will get it back, Janet

  • DAWNNIES,
WELCOME KEEP THE MEMORIES COMING TERRY ANGELO
  • Johnny Conroy had a terminal liver disease. We were close friends for a long time. Spent a lot of time at Coney Island together. The Horans and Conroys as familys, spent a lot of time at Coney Island. In the 1980s while I still lived in Brooklyn, I ran into various Conroys at the beach (usually Jimmy and his kids). For some reason, music has always been a central interest in my life and I have made these mental connections between music and people. The music I really have liked most of my life is hard rock and heavy metal. At the time, R&B/ "doo wop" was big and while I don't really care for it much, there is one album I still really like and Johnny introduced me to it: "The Paragons Meet The Jesters". It was raw and a bit different from the usual "doo wop" stuff. The album cover has some guys in leather jackets looking "bad". Still listen to it now and it always reminds me of Johnny.
  • For anyone interested, I joined "facebook" today and posted as my picture a photo of me paddling on the East River with the "twin towers" in the background. This picture was taken by my wife Arlene using a disposable water proof camera (throw away) while we were paddling around Manhattan. This picture was not too long before 9/11/2001.
  • Dawnnie522 - is your mother Serafina? We used to teach CCD at St. John's together a million years ago on Saturday mornings with Mrs. Arciello. We used to have a blast. Give her my best - this is Karen Dritto from 6th Ave. If I remember right, you used to come with her sometimes too!

Speaking of Mrs. Arciello - I just heard some very sad news. For those of who knew/remember him, Gary Arciello (her youngest son - he graduated in 1971) passed away. May he rest in peace.

Terry - glad to hear the numbers are still growing for this party!! Can't wait for it to happen. (did you see the pix Michael put on Facebook - love them!!)

Happy Monday - have a good day.

    Karen
  • Terry
Thanks! Great idea with the photos.

    Dawn
Of course I remember you. For years I've wondered how you were. All those years we spent at St. John's and then the early bus rides to John Jay. How are you? How are your Mother, sisters and brother? --Karen
  • Oooops. Made a mistake about the river. The picture on facebook (me on river with World Trade towers in background) was from the Hudson River. This was a paddle we did from the Mahattan Kayak Company (MKC) which is located near Chelsea Pier on the west side. The MKC is run by Eric Stiller whose father owned a famous folding kayak business (Klepper); Eric wrote a book about paddling around Australia ("Keep Australia On Your Left").
  • KAREN,
