  • Good Morning Everyone!

Its cold outside -------------- Have lots of things to do today, still finishing up my Christmas decorations and then cleaning up afterwards.

    Have a nice day
  • Good Morning Janet.....Did you get a lot a snow up by you?

We just got very little, just enough to make it look so pretty.

    Peek in later
  • That was for Geri
  • That's Christina's Video
  • HI JANET,

My Mom taught me how to crochet also. It so funny you mentioned that now. Yesterday, I found an instruction book, but it is hard to understand. Do you remember we had a small shop on fifth avenue between 22nd & 23rd Street where the woman would give instructions? She was such a nice lady. Also, there was on supply store I believe on 15th Street as well. That is where my mother would send me for "Knit Crocheen #10". What my mother did was not with the wool, it was the fine thin, white thread. Me, Geraldine and Jeanne have beautiful bed spreads made by my mother.

Jeanne's was squares with puffs on them. I have one with beautiful pineapples and Geraldine's is just stunning as well. It is something we all treasured and they stayed so beautiful. I'm going to take mine out for the holidays and put a rope around it like they do in the museum (lol).

Thanks for bringing up the crocheting, Cuz Janet. You reminded me of the fun times I had with my Mom learning to crochet.
  • Good Morning "Brooklyn"-

Yes Suzie, prayers for everyone, always.... Especially moms.

Christina, Julia Grace is an angel. What a blessing. I might have asked
you this, but is the Grace for 'Grace'? Thanks for sharing.

Judy, God Bless your family - they are beautiful. Thanks for sharing too. I love the furry-baby of course. Many of us have yorkies. I love the breed. Have had 9 over my lifetime (some adopted; and others 'stolen' from negligent families).

At one time my ex-husband and I had a Great Dane and two Yorkies.
It was the funiest sight - and of course the Yorkies ruled. They would bite
his ankles. I've always been blessed with great fur-babies!

    Be right back...

Christina - great video of your daughter

You guys are too good for me to keep up. Between the scrapbooks, video's. I'm lucky I can type!

    Hi Danny,

Nice to see you on here again and thanks for the shout out to my Julia Grace. She is too much. Today she is parading around with another tutu, a crown on her head, and gloves.

Danny, your typing is just perfect. I prefer to see words than pictures. No offense, but the pictures hurt my eyes when I'm scrolling down. We need to get a few friends back and WRITE a lilttle more just like you. By the way, a while back you posted some photos of your house -- it is beautiful! Take care for now and have a wonderful day.

    Christina

p.s. I made some delicious potatoes and eggs this morning. All I was missing was a loaf of Italian Bread from Mike's bakery.

Speaking of Mike's bakery, do you or anyone remember when Mike's bakery started making pizza? If I'm not mistaken, he would make it on Fridays. IT WAS SO DELICIOUS. He made them before Luigi's pizzeria opened. He had a daughter Maria (I believe), she always looked so tired. I have a clear picture of her face in mind right now. There were also a few brothers in there as well. Many times, there were arguing with each other, but they sure knew how to make a loaf of bread. I enjoyed a warm loaf with tuna salad as well.

    HUGS & LOVE TO YOU!
  • Christina - I went to J.H.S. 10 on 7th Ave. between Prospect and 16th. St.
Do you remember the supermarket or superette right across the street? It made the best tuna sandwiches on italian bread. Ah, those were the days!!!
  • R U there Christina??
  • Danny: Actually, I loved the tuna fish heros in John Jay for some reason. I ate that everyday for years there. Guess I didn't trust the other food.
  • Hi Francesca,

I love your new picture. You are so pretty! Hope you're having a great Sunday. Any sauce today? Today, I'm defrosting a sauce with some delicious ravioli. I found a nice store for homemade pasta in Hollywood, Florida. Which reminds me, I need to tell Judy Occhiogrosso about it if she does not already know. The name is Mimi's Ravioli.

Let me tell you........I never thought I would do this, but one year I went there (during Easter) to buy a fresh mozz, and she had the Pizza Rustica pie on the counter. She gave me a sample and to my SHOCK it was JUST LIKE MY MOTHERS. So I brought it from her instead of baking that year. She also made the grain pies. Good stuff.

Anyone frying up struffali's (honey balls) this year or Ewandas (bow ties)? Lots of kisses to you, my Francesca. Oh, did you read my message on Facebook last night? When Julia jumped on my lap while your picture was up she said, "Aunt Jeanne". So, so sweet and wonderful that she would think you were Jeanne. You have become so special to me and I'm glad she associates you with Jeanne.

The "Grace" in Julia's name was definately picked in memory of our Grace. The name is so beautiful and so was our Grace. I believe I mentioned that Grace was my sponsor for Confirmation.

    Have a beautiful day!
  • I miss you Christina as do many others. Stop all that Christmas decorating already, lol.
  • I keep missing you Christina !!!!
  • Hi again...

Janet, I think that is great that you are teaching your grandchildren to knit, and to hear Christina say they all have Florrie's blankets.

I remember my grandmother sitting in her rocking chair knitting. I still have the first doll blanket she made for me and the shawl she crocheted for my Communion. I have many hand-made items from my aunts and
mom. Think I've talked about these in earlier posts.

What is best is all my Grandma Francesca's cloths that were from her trousseau in Italy. It is all cotton material (I think) and everything is
hand-crochetted around the edges. Her wedding gown, blankets, etc.
In those days they also monogramed everything - coincidentally now
we have the same intials (FS). I wish I had 'kids' or someone to leave these to. Someone who'd appreciate. My friend's daughter brought them to show-and-tell in school one day.

So - keep up the good work, 'grandma' Janet ---- there will be stories and memories your grandchildren will be telling long after you are gone.

Imagine Mia's stories? (love you Ter)

    One more thing Janet,
I received an email from my cousin Maria, who is married to Frank Nagliera (I know you worked/trained with him and/or his father). She
said he is now "Commander of the Haz Mat Unit in the Fire Dept.."
I asked her about her father-in-law and said he might know you.
I'll let you know when I get a response.

I'm sure you will be remembered. After all, how many other women
were there with you? My dear friend Calli, who I met at AT&T
38 years ago, became the first woman telephone installer in the early
70's. It was not an easy road to hoe.

Ok - got on a tangent.

HOPE EVERYONE STAYS WARM TODAY... It is windy and freezing.
While I'm excited about moving to Florida, I am equally apprehensive
and sad to 'leave' - but it is days like this that make me  HAPPY
to go, be in the warm weather.

LOVE & BLESSINGS TO ALL! till the next time.....
  • CUZ JANET,

    I'M HERE, I'M HERE!!!!!

    I'm done decorating.

  • Hello Christina
  • I bet your house looks like a winter wonderland. Soon you'll have loads of people passing by to see, lol, like in Dyker Heights.
  • Subject: tuna

    DANNY:

I don't remember that store, darn. Sorry my friend.

Johnny Red, who used to sell only veggies, turned into a deli on 5th between 20th & 21st and he made some delicious tuna as well. Okay, you see what happens now, because I'm talking about that area, I got a flash of OTTO'S again. Let me stop, I think I just gained 10 pounds talking about all this food. Cooking anything good today, Danny?

  • Danny, I remember the store but never had any sandwiches there.
  • Janet,

Where are you in this class photo? Great idea to put this up. I was born one month after this photo was taken (July 2, 1963)

Where the heck is Geri O'Brien? She has some nice shots of St. John's on Facebook. Love ya, Geri.

  • HI Christina -

Glad to see you are stilll here. I didn't go to facebook yet. I see by my Inbox you sent me something. (Trying to limit my computer time this morning; have lots to do like all - and now it's almost noon) Oh My!

TO ANYONE WHO SENDS ME THINGS IN FACEBOOK - I don't go there too often, so I am not ignoring you. Then when I go, I have all these gifts and messages and coffee, etc. and it gets busy in my box (shut-up Suzie)!!! So I'll say thanks right now - to my Facebook friends - for all you've sent me.

Christina - no gravy today....Probably next weekend, my friend is coming to visit so we'll have a pasta party. Frank is leaving early tomorrow morn
for FLA so I will have to cook for myself. (Back to my ways of my single days... eating in front of the TV - yeah!!!)

Love you my dear, and happy to be a kindred-spirit with Jeanne. God rest her soul and bless you all!

Imagine - she's with your whole family - and they are having their own gravy-day today in heaven. I think I can smell the garlic coming down in the winds.

    xxxoooxxx
  • I am 2nd row down, 2nd in
  • I was on the phone with Geri and she wanted to see the picture. I have to email her your email address. She lost it.
  • Hi Danny

Hope all is well. Lyn Joy and I have talked about Calacino's tuna fish
sandwhiches on the blog in the past. They were the best and I always
talk about them. Can never get my tuna to taste like theirs.

All the sanwhiches would be made up at the counter in the middle of the
store and you just picked one out. I remember the line to eat them.

    Have a great day!
