  • Subject: loretta falcone on Festina

Loretta Falcone (Napoli) wrote: Good Morning Bloggers - I guess that I am one of those reader's who hasn't written much, I only heard about the site after the reunion. I posted a few notes but I think Susie is right, after a while there is a shyness factor that kicks in; that and the fact that the pictures and stuff are way intimidating...I am so not computer literate.
Anyway, I always enjoy peaking in. I guess that I am a few years younger than some of you, I went to St. John's with Karen Dritto, Maria Costaldo & Festina Guzzo.
I do have a clear memory of playing at Festina's house one day, I must have been about 8 or 9. Festina complained of a headache and she told her grandmother, who said a prayer & touched her forehead (sign of the cross, maybe) to ward of the mal' occhio. Boy was I impressed! It's funny how certain memories come back to you.

Another memory I have is of the 9th street YMCA dances. Seeing Joey Pinto's posts reminded me. I remember his band palying there and another, I think, that had Joey Orlando playing in it. Lots of fun, romantic drama and, of course, the drink of the day, Bali Hai!

Patsy - when I read your posts, I can hear your voice as clear as a bell.

Anthony - thanks for Joanann's phone number - she made it to my Mom's party...it was really great to see her.

Well, have a great day guys! Loretta
oh my God Loretta - you don't know how much I was thinking of you, and here you are! I just popped in to say hi to everyone.

Yes, yes, yes!!! I remember grandma doing that for me. Gram did it for many! Do you remember how much she had to yawn thru it?

I hope you are well. Was it 6th ave, or 7th ave you lived on?

    festina xxoo

  • Festina - it's so nice to be remembered! I lived on 7th avenue. It is amazing how the memories just keep popping up. I'm on Long Island now, can't tell you all how good it is to talk to people who understand about growing up in Brooklyn. I have some great friends, but sometimes when I talk about my childhood, people look at me like I'm an alien. They always ask "where did you play"? They have no concept of playing on the sidewalk with like a bizillion other kids! I guess that I can't relate to the whole drive in thing either.

Terri - I do remember you. Your sister Michelle was a grade ahead of me in St. John's. I remember your Mom, too and I know that my Mom knew her. Actually, for many years, my grandmother lived on your block, alittle closer to 5th avenue. She lived in her sister-in-law Blanche Perotta's house, I think it was 257A.

JANET - I knew Rita Matula; she had a cute brother Bobby. He had blond hair and beautiful blue eyes. Shy guy, maybe younger. Think
they also lived on 5th Ave on top of store (think between 20th and 19th St)

Different Matulas. Rita had a brother but his anme was Johnny and he was older. The girls were Mary Jane, Rita and Irene. Their parents were Eddie & Jane Matula (nee Klicki). They always lived on the corner of 6th Ave & 21st ST.
  • They did have cousins but the only one I remember was Paulie Matula.
  • Helloooooooooooooooooo Everyone. Terry, I still have not decorated the tree. Maybe tonight as I yawn.
  • janet,i was just gonna ask
  • Anthony - no relation to Peter Napoli. My husband was from Bayside, in Queens.
