How to upload from iPod to computer ? — Brooklynian

How to upload from iPod to computer ?

So my laptop died, got another laptop.

Need to get songs FROM iPod TO laptop.

Googled, and found a lot of shareware that claim that they can do this.

Hesitant to download something without knowing that someone else first used it successfully, and without computer issues, spam, corruption, etc....

  • I've used ipod rip. Works ok--it doesn't mess anything up, but you do have to copy/paste the folder it copies into from your desktop to your itunes folder. Then, in itunes, go to file/add to library.

  • Same thing happened to me but I did it through the iPod website without having to download anything. I am probably the least tech savy person but the directions were real easy.
  • music rescue works really well.
I recall it being pretty self explanatory- and your songs are converted in their original names/tags etc. (I guess based on how ipods code files internally, some programs will retrieve them this way- so your guilty pleasures of say Spice Up Your Life.mp3 and Theme From the Little Mermaid.mp3 suddenly look like AXCJCJKSO.mp3 or something) (I think).
  • try doug's applescripts - the site has a ton of itunes-related scripts and you can rip individual tracks or playlists.
  • You don't need any applications to do this. If you plug your iPod into your computer (make sure you've change the iTunes settings to manually update your iPod- not automatic).

These instructions should be helpful: http://lifehacker.com/software/ipod/how-to-copy-songs-from-your-ipod-to-your-pc-105256.php

I have used this method before with success on several occasions.
  • the guy at the genius bar recommended (off the record) that I use Senuti when I had this problem. it worked fine.
  • get eph pod software. it's free just google it
