New yoga studio — Brooklynian

New yoga studio

edited November -1 in Park Slope
I cross posted this in the fitness board too, but given its in Park Slope, I didn't want people to miss it.

A new yoga studio opened this week on Sackett, between 4th and 5th called Bend & Bloom yoga. Appears to be incredibly family friendly (sounded like they are setting some classes up where the kids can do yoga in one room while the parents do it in another, and there are people on hand to wrangle the kids) but also really community focused. It's just got a really nice feel and the studio is freaking gorgeous-- if you know the building, its the one that was a industrial art-ish studio and before that a fire house. Its stunning inside with the sky-lights and all. If you are interested in yoga, its totally worth checking out. They seem to have a special going on where they are doing a 3-for-1 deal ($18), or unlimited for a month ($45), so theres no good reason not to check them out.

I am excited to see a studio that really has a sense of community in it from the start. I think it might wind up as my new favorite. :D

  • i would imagine one would need to be able to touch her toes to do yoga, which clearly cuts me out
  • it would cut me out too.
i went to the basics class yesterday, which because of all the running and lack of body awareness is right where i need to be. the toes get closer over time. check out the saturday basics class. you'll totally be fine.
  • and when i end up crippled and in pain you'll bring me food and motrin?
  • surely. copious amounts.
    but you wont need it.
  • Subject: Early-morning class at Bend & Bloom

Please don't flag this as spam because I teach for Bend & Bloom. This is a sort of poll to see what the community would like.

We are planning on starting an early-morning class in Novemeber on Tuesdays. We are aware that there are not any other pre-9-to-5 vinyasa yoga classes in the Slope and would like to offer one (or more if it catches on.)

But there are a few things to consider before we start:

Would you prefer a full length class (90 min) or an express class (60 min)?

    What is an ideal start-time? 7am, 7:15, 7:30?
Please consider how long you would like the class to run, how long it takes you to get dressed and ready after class, and how long it takes you to get to work to determine your desired start-time.

Thank you so much for your interest! And I hope to see you in class!
  • 60 mins at 7am sounds ideal to me!
  • I'd vote for 60 mins at 7am, too! I'll need to hold off on taking that class until I'm out of Lara's prenatal classes on Thursday nights, though. ;) LOVE her! Bend & Bloom is amazing!
  • Glad there are more yoga studios. Don't like the idea of children being anywhere near however. I like yoga's ability to help me relax and forget stresses like oversized strollers on sidewalks and rude children run amok due to lazy hipster parenting.
  • Thanks for your input, Torisoaw and UnderhillMT! Dually noted!

And no worries, Comfortably Smug, there are plenty of adult classes being held at times when the tykes are MIA. There are no kids or baby classes going on during the 7pm adult classes Mon-Fri, nor are there any kids/babies around after 12pm on Sat, and none whatsoever all day Sunday. It's very chill there.

    Thanks for your votes!

Starting this Tuesday, Nov 4th, B&B will have Sunrise Yoga 7-8am!

Come to a pre-voting practice dedicated to a positive election outcome, whatever that may mean for you... cough, Obama, cough, cough... and peace and prosperity in the coming years. I've been hearing a lot of people saying, I don't want to get my hopes up. I say let's get them up really high and set the tone for the day, sending that energy out into the world. We're gonna rock out and show up to the polls drenched in sweat with savasana hair.

And let's be honest, none of us are going to make it to class in the evening of the 4th-- we'll all be riveted in front of our TVs so make it an a.m. practice!

This will become a regularly scheduled class on Tuesdays 7-8am. If it catches on, Bend & Bloom may add more Sunrise classes!

Oh, and don't forget, students who are new to Bend & Bloom can still sign up for A MONTH OF UNLIMITED YOGA FOR $45 as part of the grand opening special offerings!
