The Minstrel Show 2008 at Gallery on Dean

The volunteer neighborhood gallery space Gallery on Dean (just a few vigorous steps across Flatbush in the backroom of Tavern on Dean which donates the space and takes NO commission from the artist AND pays for the invite mailing and reception) starts it's fifth season with an exciting exhibit by a young Bed Stuy artist named Yamel Cupid. It is profoundly moving and I hope people will try very hard to have a look. When I went to his studio last weekend to do the final pick of pictures some gave me chills. Really. It opens Sunday (September 14th) at 4 with a public reception (good wine and very good cheeses) and a meet and greet of the artist. Runs through November 4th.
