Vandy's bar scene
Subject: Vandy's bar scene
last night Carnivore, Candicissima, Bewitched and I attempted to go to Soda. it was extremely full. as in 3 deep at the bar, no seats anywhere, people dancing like mad in the lounge, etc.then we attempted to go to Indigo Lounge/Bar/Blu and IT WAS PACKED. so THEN we went to Beast and managed to snag a table that was just being vacated. it was so awesome. I'm so happy for the bar scene on Vandy. and it proves that we need another (cause I get lazy and tired).
but, not kidding, I was so happy for Vanderbilt bars last night - they are doing quite well, it seems.

This is awesome! A few more bars/restaurants/boutique shops and Vanderbilt Avenue will be the next destination point. I predicted this in this posting:http://dailyheights.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1726

If Vandy becomes the next Smith street, not everyone will love it.
I'm all for it but I'm just sayin'. -
I made it to Indigo on friday for the first time it was cool( soda was packed ) but I also wanted to go to Nalani's but it was closed for renovations?

It's too wide to be the new Smith or Bedford or any of those. The high potential of getting flattened by a speeding car will stop the lazy bar crawl street type of atmosphere. Then again, it could turn into a 3rd Avenue sort of thing and I'll have to move.

Gossip that we heard from a local on Wednesday was that they got cited for some things and have to fix it before they'll reopen. -

really...... I liked indigo but I have to say the construction work looked kinda shoddy, I wonder if it was anything like Nalani's -

Yeah, I was there last night for a short time, and I thought the same thing... in their defense, though, I know that the owners did a lot of work on the place, and I would wager that they did much, if not all, of it themselves.
The bars on Underhill weren't doin' too bad last night, either! ToD was busy and Sepia was packed by the time I left! -

Maybe another few pedestrian fatalities are what's required to get the speeding problem addressed. After griping a lot about this, Letitia James called me directly, and ended by asking if I would contribute to the committee which studies traffic and recommends changes. I don't pretend to know anything about traffic engineering, but I am a professional researcher and would contribute as best as possible.
True to form, her office has not followed up. Councilwoman James herself is great, but her staff *never* follows up. I had called them directly several times as well, always hearing "we'll get back to you," then nothing. It is my guess that nothing will be done to address speeding until Atlantic Yards is developed--whatever form that takes. -
I can't tell you the number of times I've almost bought it on Vandy. I've taken to totally ignoring the lights, because they're meaningless, and instead just darting across the street after surveying all intersections nearby. it's easier to cross Flatbush or Washington. christ.

We live on Plaza St E. The nightmare crossing is over Vanderbilt. Those fucking car services are psycho and if you are not halfway out in the crosswalk they will punch it even if you are with your kids or an old woman on a walker or who the fuck knows. -

Also in their defense, the part that is the worst (right above the bar) was originally done nicely. They did it themselves and spent lots on soundproofing. But, soon after they finished, the landlord decided to put that weird looking beam in the ceiling and totally slice through the ceiling messing up their work.
