5th Avenue - One Way? Booo!!! — Brooklynian

5th Avenue - One Way? Booo!!!

Does anyone know if the change of 5th Avenue (South of around 25th St.) to One Way is permanent?

Is it going back to 2-way anytime soon?

The bus situation is infuriating. The northbound B63 takes a detour to 4th Ave and comes up 20th St to 5th but then doesn't stop until 17th St! I have missed it a few times due to this. It should make a stop on 20th St before turning onto 5th Ave.

Anyone know?

  • From the NYC DOT website:

5th Avenue between 24th and 34th Streets: Effective March 24, 2008 through February 2009, 5th Avenue is one-way southbound to facilitate NYCDDC roadway reconstruction work.

Link here if you want to see it: http://home2.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/motorist/weektraf.shtml

I think they were originally planning to be done sooner, but alas, a city project goes as it goes.

I *think* the bus stops at 4th and 20th, as opposed to the next corner - definitely worth taking a look or asking the driver next time, although I am not sure where you are.
  • I too wish it would stop on 20th and 5th!! I have chased it twice already.
  • DOT is full of sh*t. At least 12-24 months. Contact CB7 718-854-0003

After all that work between 25th and 40th, they are gonna tear it up again!
  • Poor EZN, I feel your pain.
  • It just sits there with the pipes on the sidewalk. I haven't seen work on the road for AGES now.
