couple with toddler moving to area- any mom and baby groups?

Hey there,

We are moving to Crown Heights/Prospect Heights (who really knows which, the brokers will tell you anything) on Oct 1st and have a 14 month old. Are there any mom and baby groups in the area or message boards for them? I was a member of one in my old neighborhood in Greenpoint and it was great. Any recommendations of places for me to hang with my daughter wold also be great.

Thanks!

  • There is a Crown Heights Parents yahoo group (and I'd assume a Prospect Heights one as well). As for hangouts, the Brooklyn Children's Museum has finally reopened, so I'd say start there. I'm sure you'll run into a bunch of other parents there during the day.

My wife and I live in that same nebulous area with our nearly-two year old. I know my wife takes her to the library at Grand Army Plaza two or three times a week for reading time and play events of some sort, but that tends to happen when I'm at work, so I don't know details.

Here's a link to the library's kids events site:

  • We like the Underhill playground on Underhill and Prospect--it's very nice, though a bit of a walk. There are also toddler reading groups at the library on Franklin Ave (near Fulton). Also, there are kids classes you can take, like Music For Ardvaarks at SODA.
  • hi there... we have a 17 month-old in the neighborhood. I work full-time but we have a babysitter who looks after our son...

some favorite places are the park next to the botanical gardens as well as the underhill playground. the library has great programs and we also attend the music class that operates out of Soda on Vanderbilt (it's part of Music for Aardvarks).

always looking for new pals in the area, please feel free to PM me and we can meet up or chat some time!

  • I like to take my 15 month old to Blue Marble Ice Cream on Underhill & St Johns. In back of the ice cream shop NY City Explorers has a playspace where we go for music classes. Open playtime is about $10 and the ice cream is great. F
