How to get rid of fruit flies without spraying?

I have a ton of fruit flies flying all over the kitchen, but don't know how to get rid of them. I don't want to spray toxic chemicals everywhere because it might hurt my two cats. Any ideas on how to get rid of them without chemicals?

  • ha... same link for the Fruit Fly Death Trap! if you don't want to click on it here's the text from it (though, they have a nice little pic and a lot of comments mentioning other tricks):

It's easy to make your own: just roll a piece of paper into a cone, pour some apple cider vinegar or put a piece of ripe banana in the bottom of a glass or jar, insert the paper cone, and wait.

(Oh yeah, and get rid of the ripe or rotten fruit that's attracting the fruit flies. You can cut off and compost any softened sections, wash the rest thoroughly, and use it. We made cobbler.)
  • Oh, wow, thanks for the quick replies, I've tried it and it is working already!
  • I broke up with my ex because he insisted on making mountains of guacamole and we had millions of fruit flies in the kitchen. Okay so that's not the ONLY reason I broke up with him but it was pretty gross.
  • there is an exterminating office around 3ed ave and 12st. they sell these little yellow cups that you pour the supplied liquid. fruit flies go in but cant go out. it costs 6 dollars and works like a charm
the place is on 3ed....not so sure about the st
  • ok, ALL fruit, veggies, onions, potatoes, esp bananas, in the fridge. bleach down the drain. everything that goes into the garbage put inside a plastic grocery bag. no exterminator needed.

Probably the best way would be to starve your cats. Not only would they start eating the fruit flies, but they'll also get rid of ants, roaches, centipedes. Maybe one will even get rid of the other saving you money on cat nip.
  • Just remove anything and everything they can eat from your kitchen counters. Make sure they don’t get to the garbage (closed can or a cover). Give it 2 days they will be gone.
  • don a sexy apple costume

    seduce them

then stab them when they least expect
