Beautiful event!
Sunday, Sep. 21, 2008 close to 200 people joined Chabad of Prospect Heights West to dedicate its synagogue building and welcome a new Torah scroll. The joy in the air was palpable as men, women, and children accompanied by live music paraded the Torah along Vanderbilt Ave. in Brooklyn. The procession began at 656 Vanderbilt Ave. and, with G-d's blessings, in beautiful weather the Torah was brought under the chupah to its new home in the Chabad center located at 569 Vanderbilt Ave.
Rabbi Shimon Hecht, senior Chabad Representative in the Brownstone Brooklyn area, addressed the assembled saying "this celebration is a historic event in Brooklyn as we witness Torah true Jewish pride being ignited in every neighborhood in this region. The dedication of this beautiful Chabad center under the leadership of Rabbi Mendy Hecht, and the completion of a new Torah scroll in the Prospect Heights area is a true snctification of G-d's Honor".
Jason Goldfarb, 27, a resident of Prospect Heights participating in the celebration commented "this event reignited my Jewish feeling and after many years of missing High Holiday sevices I'm looking forward to praying at the Chabad center".
Rosh Hashanah services at the center will be led by Rabbi Mendy Hecht and Rabbi Tali Frankel. For more info. and times of services call (347) 622-3599.
There will also be High Holiday services held at the newly opened Chabad Center in Windsor Terrace located at 1266 Prospect Ave. Services will be led by Rabbi Moshe Hecht.
