Hummers on Lincoln b/w Washington and Classon — Brooklynian

Hummers on Lincoln b/w Washington and Classon

Does anyone know the deal with the impeccably maintained Hummer H2s on Lincoln Pl? I was walking home down this block yesterday, and noticed that the black one was not there. I was amazed to see that they put up orange cones to protect the parking spot! And no one took the spot of course. I came back down the block to get some food and the black H2 was back and the cones were gone. How can they get away with this? Whoever owns this car must have some serious street cred in order to to this. I always wondered how those two cars always have the same spots - now we know.

  • I've heard tales of this one on the board before. You could attempt a search. Muhahahaha!

  • Thread being moved to the Crown Heights forum in 3... 2...
  • Pretty sure the H2 belongs to the super of the building that it gets parked in front of all the time... the one with the lions on the stoop railing.
  • I don't know anything about them other than the white H3 is a relatively recent addition. Always seems to be someone on the stoop looking after them.

On the plus side they do a lovely job every year with their Halloween and Xmas decorations.
  • I see those all the time when I'm walking mr. vicious.

Who the hell drives a hummer in an era of $4 + gasonline?

Those things have about as much resale value as a foreclosure house in the rockaways.
  • It's just funny to me. If I tried putting cones up in my parking spot, I'd fully expect them to be gone when I came back. I'd be afraid that Brooklyn had gone completely soft if they were still there. Yet this guy does it over and over again, and he always has his spot. This is, dare I say, GANGSTA.

Someone who frequently goes on trips through the unpaved wilds of America.

Someone w/ more money than you or I. Or perhaps someone w/ more money than sense.
  • Lo Kee wrote: Who the hell drives a hummer in an era of $4 + gasonline?
Someone who wants to put the gas guzzling Lambo away and get decent mileage for a bit?

Seriously, not _everyone_ decides these things based on gas mileage.

Anyone who buys a new vehicle for its resale value is TOTALLY DOING IT WRONG!
  • hahaha like i said Nino Brown !!
  • wow. we have to wait for me to come back and pay attention to move this thread to CH? oy.

    ha.

in any case, people are lemmings. they like orange cones.
  • Sorry I read Hummers on Lincoln b/w Washington and Classon, and I thought Slappy McBluelips was advertising his services.

    Seeing I'm a gal, I just didn't bother.
  • Yeah I've been seeing that Hummer for awhile, that too did piss me off. Theres really not much to do in this situation except maybe report him for insurance fraud, since he has out of state plates and that car is obviously owned and being operated in NY.
  • i live across the street and my super said he was a big time dealer back several years ago and he basically ran the block. he still has street cred and has a crew that looks after his vehicles and in fact most of this street. they're pretty cool for the most part. and not only are the halloween decorations good but so are the treats they give out.

    HA!

    Wait... HAHA HAHAHAhahahaha!

    Nice,
  • Maybe the guy pays for his gas by giving hummers in his Hummer.
  • I hate that fucking guy AND his crew.

    Saw this today...

"Some fairly staggering numbers in the September car sales data by brand. For the first time in recent memory, every single brand sold in the U.S. saw a decline in the month. Every one. The best performing brand, Audi, was still down 5% year-over-year.

And the worst performing brand? That has to be Hummer, with volumes off 54.8%, thus marking the sixth straight month of at least 50% sales volume declines at the hulking-stupid-gas-guzzler maker."

Yah, and hulking-stupid-gas-guzzler maker Volvo was second to worst, with volumes off 51.8%.

Oh wait. Perhaps _that_ stat totally fucks up yer point. No wonder it was left out...

For the record, the next two worst are Porsche, the hulking-stupid-gas-guzzler maker, at 44.8% off and Mercury, the hulking-stupid-gas-guzzler maker, at 43.2% off.

Incidentally, Hummer is owned by GM, which at 15.8% off is nearly 10% better than _any_ other company. FWIW.

The one month data is fairly meaningless in auto sales...it all depends which brand/co is running what promotion that month. That's why I highlighted the 6 month trend.

Here is it year-to-date (through 9/30):
    Hummer -47.4%
    Porsche -19.8%
    Volvo -21.8

There are worse performing brands though:
    Land Rover -60.4%

    And better:
    Aston Martin +80.9% :)
  • Hey, how'd the Toyoto Prius do?
  • Capt. Planet wrote: Hey, how'd the Toyoto Prius do?
They don't break it out by model in that chart, but Toyota in general would be on the "more bad" side than the "more good" side.

I found a direct Toyota quote that says Prius sales are down 9.3% for September, and down 4.8% for the year. FWIW.
  • Yeah, Prius -4.8% year to date.

Toyota sales in general are down 10.4% YTD....slightly better than average vehicle sales down 12.8%. They've done well with the Yaris - up 29.3% YTD (but its still outsold 2:1 by the Prius).

Honda has done well with the Fit - up 54.2% and Civic +12.1% YTD, respectively.
  • You can even see a picture of that Hummer parked there on Google's "Street View" function.
  • it belongs to Charles, and don't fuck with him or his lackies who wash his car at least once a week. and word to the wise, don't fuck with jan either.
  • I Elect that last post, for Post of the Year, that was truly profound!
  • it is a classic. It reminds me of a great quote in college I heard when I used to live across the street from a suburban crack house. From his decaying front porch, the dealer yelled:

"Why the Fuck you honking your horn! What, you want the whole neighborhood to know what's going on!"

...much to the amusement of my roommate and I, who were sitting on own decaying porch across the street

Moewzer, good job naming homies in a public forum. I'm sure KWAC at others will take note....

P.S. To my knowledge owning a Hummer, and having others wash it, is legal.
