Brooklyn Themed Snack Ideas Help — Brooklynian

Brooklyn Themed Snack Ideas Help

So, twice a month my “team” at work has a snacktime where a different person is responsible for bringing in snacks. You know something to help boost morale.

Now, we are starting to get a little competitive on who is bringing in the best snacks… that we’ve advanced to themes.

So—I have to come up with something for next week for a theme of “Brooklyn Treats”.

Does anyone have any good Brooklyn snack ideas? Besides Juniors cheesecake?

mini Italian pastries from Monteleone on Court Street?

(I usually treat my visiting family to this and it goes perfect with a side of Jacque Torres hot chocolate).
  • proscuit balls and mini rice balls (both fried and great), you can get em at the unassuming Joe's Superette on Smith street. If you do a search on chowhound.com , there are numerous mentions of them, they're awesome. Also some homemade soppresetta at Esposito's Pork store on Court and President, they open early.
  • I don't know your logistics but Nathan's would be good. The fries are already soggy so you could just microwave them. That candy place to the west of Nathan's has the most amazing carmel and candied apples. The stuff is actually very fresh unlike the Russian teenagers who work there, bored silly of course.

OMG!!!! You just made me the happiest person. I thought this placed closed a long time ago. I remember my mom getting their rice balls every weekend and they were always delicious!

jaha - even if you don't get it as a snack you must try them.
  • The sign and front is rundown (it now says "..oe's ..uperete") but theyr'e still kickin!

  • roti or patties. or is this supposed to be sweet stuff? red velvet cake from cake man raven.
  • If it's supposed to be sweets then cheesecake and redvelvet cake for sure!
  • Ooo if my co-workers showed up with a plate of roasted red peppers, prosciutto, fresh mozz etc. from the Italian deli in my nabe or similar, I would definitely vote them best snack bringer!
  • Although if I was super cheesey I think it would be cool to do a D train tour of snacks-- it goes through so many nabes including Spanish, Italian, Carribbean...... that would kick a! You could do arepas, mozz, meat patties...........

Slightly OT - But Scarlett I do that when I have friends visiting Brooklyn for the first time. I tell them I will take you around the world with a $10 metrocard and hit all the nabes for food.
  • That's awesome!!!!!!! Where do you go?
  • thanks for the great ideas... I think I am going to check out Joe's Superette on Friday...

it can be sweet or just a regular snack!

    thanks again!!
  • if your office isn't riddled with vegetarians, pick up some lard bread at...alafair or machina or someone -- what's the name of that place on court where they sell yum?
  • silly, ummm I just bought lard bread over the last weekend and was in fatty heaven!
  • how about miniature beef chicken shrimp or veggie patties from a golden crust bakery? or their jerk wings? what about pastries from Allans Bakery on Nostrand Ave and Maple. The lines are long but move quickly.
  • Steve's Key Lime Pie (Red Hook)

    Terrace Bagels
  • Get some empanadas from the empanada lady on 5th and 13th. They're like 1.25 each and delicious. Not a big fan of the cheese though. Beef and chicken are great...

I hit Sunset Park for Mexican
    Atlantic Ave for Middle Eastern
Gravesend for Turkish sweets and coffee
Brighton Beach for russian nosh and vodka
For the Brooklyn old school vibe I take them to Sam's on Court for Pizza
And top it all off with good ol American steak at Peter Lugers

I have added some Manhattan spots such as Korean Town for the Korean BBG and Little India for Indian food.

So you know I went there today because this was all I could think about . . .
I got the prociutto balls (orgasmic) and some cheese rice balls (not as good as I remember).

Thanks again for mentioning them luckmagnet I shall eat one in your honor now ;)
  • and now am hankering for them now, luckily I work on Smith street, thanks for the honor, Stace
  • cocktail knishes!
except I don't know where you get them -- I used to go to Mrs Stahls, but I think they were sold or something

Lard bread is good on the corner of Union St and Henry St - bakery begins with an "M"
  • Montelleone's...... is that the bread with proscuitto in it, cause thats mighty fine as well, they have that at Esposito's next door too-
  • Mazollo is the place Pitu is talking about which makes the best lard bread. I personally like them for all other breads besides italian loaf and french loaf breads. For those breads I go to Camarrari (which is the one in Monteleone's).
