  • and the jewish deli we all want.
  • I'd love a Ricky's - type store

I would love a little clothing boutique or some sort of beauty place (cosmetics, soaps, etc.)
I eat every day too. A few times…. But I use these things called ovens and stoves. And I go to these places called supermarkets and grocery stores… I find expensive restaurants unnecessary. I’ve never even once tried the windsor café, the japanese restaurant, the australian pie store, etc.

personally I wouldn’t go to a beauty store, but I wouldn’t mind seeing the avenue have one for more variety as opposed to just restaurants and real estates… what I would really like to see on the avenue is a video store, a sporting goods store, a printing center, and a comic book/baseball card/toy store.

the hardware store on the corner of prospect ave & 10th ave isn't bad. i do remember in the 80's when there was a big hardware store on 9th ave right at the corner of windsor pl (where the korean grocery store is now).
  • there already is a that creepola beauty "supply" place on ppw that takes up two storefronts.

    we need a bakery.

no, that place should go. The lady's son owns the building and she has her store as a kind of "hobby". A total waste of great space.

    I mean a real beauty supply/Ricky's store.

I go to the hardware store on Prospect & 10th sometimes and it's fine - cramped, but usually has what I need (if not, I head to Lowe's).

A good bakery would be nice. Regina's doesn't count. It's crap.

What I would love, love, love, is if Sabella's was replaced with a GOOD pizza by the slice place (and I like the place next to Farrell's well enough, but it's whole pies only).

I am looking forward to Ye Olde Gentriconfrontation Inn, and would welcome a wine/cheese type place as well.

    Hey, a girl can dream
  • the hardware on prospect and 10th is fine, but they always seem to close at 6pm which basically makes it impossible to get to after work.

    Ricky's - eww.

I second the motions on a bakery, sabella's, and Ye Olde Gentriconfrontation Inne. I'd love to buy fresh bread, eat a single slice of pizza and mingle with my fellow yupsters.

I don't see an android's dungeon comics and baseball card shoppe working out well there. Those types of stores seem few and far between and probably for a good reason.

You mean you and your family don't order out for Australian Meat Pies at least once a week?

    Pfff.. weirdos.

And why on earth would you want any of those businesses you name which serve an actual legitimate purpose, possibly even for a fair price?? Lame!

Personally, I would like to see another "Union Market." I'm tired of spending too little for my groceries.
  • that's it, i've got it. we need pastis
  • vidro - Ricky's....eww? what's wrong with Ricky's? 'splain yourself, please
  • you know, i think we need another cell phone place. we don't have enough!
  • Flexichick wrote: vidro - Ricky's....eww? what's wrong with Ricky's? 'splain yourself, please
eh, i just find their store fronts ugly and their products chincy. there are probably other stores that would fill the same niche more nicely.

the little dangly things burlesque dancers wear over their nipples?

these aren't exactly expensive restaurants. windsor cafe, formerly trio diner, has been there at least 5 years as far as I can remember - any you never felt like having pancakes and bacon and eggs, or a cheeseburger?

I mean, I get flack for not liking a certain bar like it's criminal or something but I guess it is good to know that longer term residents see no need to support businesses that have opened in the neighborhood more recently.
  • vidro: that's pasties.

and i love windsor cafe, formerly trio. the brunches are yummy and everything else is always tasty. (though they only have chocolate syrup, not fudge, for their ice cream sundaes. they need fudge. and the trio people never put actual anchovies in the caesar dressing which they do now, rendering it inedible by yours truly.) however, great blueberry pancakes and smoothies.

we just need more than a couple of choices. it's such a charming few blocks, it could use some more charming--or useful--businesses.

9th Avenue has always been more or less bunk, at least for the 30yrs I can remember. It's too small and too local of a strip to support any real serious business, since everyone has always simply gone to 5th or 7th Ave to do their shopping.
  • i disagree, several businesses have flourished there: terrace, the meat market, clemens. i think it has real possibilities.

and don't forget Terrace Bagels, which is booming as always. Luv's gets a lot of traffic too.

Those are stuff I can get in the supermarket for a lot cheaper and cook at home... But I do go to the bagel store every once in a while, as well as #1 garden chinese restaurant.
