Interior Double Doors?
I live in a railroad apt. on Union. I would love to install doors to separate the bedroom from the living room so my husband can watch Monday Night Football in peace and I could get some sleep. My landlord gave us the go ahead (we plan on staying here for a looooong time--rent stabalized--so the investment is worth it for us)but we are lost as to where to go for installation. The doorway is wide and high, I think they would have to be customized. Any suggestions?

Especially if you're looking for 8' doors, look for salvage of old doors, either from a renovation (there were french doors sitting out on Union between 5th and 6th outside for ages,) on the classifieds at Brownstoner (or craigs or wherever) or at the Good Olde Things place on Atlantic, or maybe Build It Green in Queens (they recycle/sell reasonably priced salvage, only some of their ever changing stock is on their website) or maybe at the flea market in Ft Greene
It's cheaper (and I think nicer) than a new custom build. There was a carpenter guy I used (to repair my tall windows) that does both custom doors and installation of old doors, but I'm forgetting his name right now. Start poking around online (and on the street) . . . -
Demolition Depot on 125th St.... You can't call, their website is useless. You have to trek up there on a weekday, but it is worth it.

I installed an off the shelf pair of french doors from Home Depot, $500. It makes better sense to fill in around the doors with new wall rather than look or have made custom doors. Check with HD or Lowes for a installer that they recommend. They will have the 1m/2m liability that your LL insurance company will require and the price will be competative IMHO. Make sure they insulate the walls.

Rereading I see you might have an existing doorway. Even if an installer has to modify the existing frame it is still worth installing new doors. Oh yeah, get opaque glass in the doors not clear. Dumb mistake!

here ...I stumbled upon these right after I left his site...
