If you support marriage for gay couples... — Brooklynian

If you support marriage for gay couples...

I'm posting this everywhere I can and emailing it to everydamnperson I know, so it's going up here too...

For those of y'all who don't follow the LGBT news all that closely, you might not realize that the No on Prop. 8 campaign, which is trying to beat a ballot initiative that would take away marriage for same-sex couples in California, is in trouble.

Although our side was polling better in the past few weeks, the campaign was already worried that our numbers would start going down, and it turns out they were right. Here's why: The undecided voters are spread out over a wide span of demographics, and the only way to reach such a diverse group is through a massive t.v. ad campaign. The other side has been outdoing us hugely in fundraising (they've raised almost $10 million more than we have) and therefore has been able to afford more t.v. ads.

The two most recent voter polls show support for Proposition 8 rising. If the election were held today, both polls found, our side would lose. And the longer the other side is able keep buying more ads than us and getting its message out to the undecided voters better, the bigger the gap will become.

Our side has been amazing in its fundraising for this -- this kind of money has NEVER been seen before in a statewide ballot initiative campaign on a gay rights issue -- but the other side is just flat outdoing us. Anti-gay forces all over the U.S. consider this to be their last great stand on marriage, and they are digging deep in their pockets. So please, please, please, if you can afford even a small donation, make one NOW to the No on Prop. 8 campaign.
