Subject: Beacon's Closet?

Has anyone had any experiences with Beacon's closet on Union & 5th? I have 7 black hefty bags of clothes and someone suggested I take the bags there to sell them.
So they only buy retro clothes?
Do they buy vintage costume jewelry?
ANy help will be appriciated.

  • They're really selective with what they do and don't take. Atleast the one in Williamsburg has been when I've brought stuff in. You can also try selling stuff to Buffalo Exchange on N9th and Driggs, they're a little more open with what they'll take. I'm pretty sure both will buy vintage jewelry.
  • beacons closet is moving to a space twice as large as it's in now next month, so perhaps they will be a little more open with what they take. would make since, since i imagine they'll be increasing their inventory significantly.

the new place is on warren/5th, btw...
  • i've not had good luck selling my stuff--they chose about 1 thing from a whole bag--but their prices the stuff they sell are pretty good.

Ah that's good. The current location is way too small esp compared to the wburg store.
  • D'oh! I was hoping they'd move closer to South Slope.
  • I wish we could get a Buffalo Exchange or another really good thrift store in the neighborhood. It seems to be a booming business right now, and Park Slopers seem to really dig their vintage stores...
  • I went their 3 times to sell clothes. The first two times I made about 30 bucks total. This last time they didn't take a thing!!
  • they seem to only accept designer duds..from what ive noticed
  • They take a lot of deliberately ugly clothes, no matter the brand--you'll find loads of H & M and Gap in there, as well as Moth and other stuff. Sometimes it seems like there's no rhyme or reason, but sometimes you find real gems. At the Park Slope location they tend not to have much in sizes larger than about a 4.
