Sick of Gunshot Posts!

I was kidding..sorry.
a gunshots board doesn't make sense. i mean, i'm sort of nebulously sorry to hear about crime in, say, williamsburg, but it doesn't interest me the way crime in my own neighborhood does.
but that's just my opinion. feel free to ask DH. -
sorry -- obviously i was feeling a little earnest, or something. might be all the political phone calls i'd been making.
 -
here's a board full of local crime.
http://savebrooklynnow.blogspot.com/
Enjoy.
P.S. I didn't see any posts devoted to gunfire, but lots of more serious crime. -
I agree with Anastasia Beaverhausen
From what I understand, registered members of this forum are allowed to post what they think and are allowed to post what is on their minds, as long as it is not harmful/hateful/overly crass/etc.
It seems a bit strange to me to start saying "No posts of such-and-such a kind" when their content doesn't violate any rules--some people find it annoying, but that's about the only offense. You could start to censor and rule out just about anything with that justification. -
The 77th pct lists crime stats too:

I don't think anyone has called for a ban on "Did you hear that gunshot posts" ...some people are just stating that they get (well, read the thread). So far, only 16 out of 35 want to know about gunshots. ...another 6 somewhat care. ...and (why I am writing the results of the poll that is directly above!?) -
From what I understood, telling people that it's getting boring to read those posts suggests that others shouldn't make them. Is that a misunderstanding?

Besides, it is not like everyone is forced to read every post. I understand it breeds into the stereotypes of the area, but unfortunately gun violence is a reality in CH.
There's a difference between a thread that has actual information like someone was shot at Rogers and EPway and one that asks if you heard shots on that corner and someone chimes in "no, but I did 10 blocks away." If you hear shots, go call the cops or something because what good does posting the question on the board (despite KWAC/Parade Rest/other law enforcement types who are lurking) do?
Because let's face it no one is going to chime into the thread with "Sorry neighbors, it was me taking out that dealer down the street. My bad. I'll try to get him at 5pm next time." (But if that did happen, it'd be epic.) Or "damn, I just got shot. Someone call an ambulance." (And that would be the stupidest person ever.) -

A lot of us will be bored regardless of what you do; the whole reason we post is because we are bored. It is an incurable condition.
If your goal in posting "did you hear those gunshots" is to save us from our boredom: Thank you, but the poll seems to be stating that many of us are bored with gunshot posts.
We are not, however, bored with complaining about gunshot posts (but I'm almost there, I promise!).
If your goal is to learn about a specific crime or crime stats, in general it may be similarly misguided. ...It should come as no surprise that some people fill their boredom by making stuff up. But, do not despair, some genuine crime stat resources were given above that may help you.
If your goal is to become less bored by posting "did you hear those gun shots?", hey more power to you.... go nuts! hope it works for you, Enjoy.
Some even post about Cashmere eating moths http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=46137
....and for some reason these posts have escaped the rath of those who hate hearing about how others heard gun shots. I don'tt know why I link to moth posts, yet dislike gun shot heard posts.
Real crime, on the other otherhand, give me murders, robberies and rapes, even a "body in a box" http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=46202 now that's exciting. -
news flash: it's an internet forum. you're under no obligation to read or participate in threads you're not interested in... or to visit the site at all.
post about what you want to post about and let other people post what they want to post about. if this site's content annoys you that much, then go frequent a site that's more to your liking or start your own. the Internet is a big place. -

FYI, Crown Heights south of Eastern Parkway is covered by the 71. Clarkson Ave is the precinct's southern border.

I also agree with KWAC. Feels like the only real blase response is the ones about the people who were shot. great that you know about it, but its not like anyone here gives a shit. maybe enough to post an "oh too bad" but not enough to do much other than sigh in relief that it wasn't them and their iphone is safe.
I so rarely read the board anymore because its become a lot of fear mongering about how scary this place is and this shooting and that shooting. whats the point in knowing if no one really gives a shit.
its all very self-serving under a very thin guise. its online rubbernecking and nothing more. and its kinda old. -
1. i don't mind gunshot posts. i guess because sometimes they lead KWAC or Paraderest to post some actual information. and because i guess i hope sometimes someone will be like "no worries, those were fireworks" or whatever.
2. it pisses me off when the gunshot reporter posts about it but hasn't called the cops. that's just dumb.
3. not really sure what we're supposed to do about crime victims via posting except offer some kind of "that's sad" response. then again, i'm not sure what i was supposed to do about online about how miserably saje burned their coffee, either.
4. you bet your boots i'm relieved when the person who got shot wasn't me.
5. my iphone dwells in another dimension, i'm afraid. (the one with unicorns. sigh.) -

OMG ..did you guys just hear that burnt coffee?! I was sitting at my computer when I read it. It was like sizzle, pop, pop, then there was a bad smell. I thought it was burnt tea at first. Was anyone hurt? I think he lives on x street, near the corner of y. But I live far from there, and heard it over here.
It's official: I'm now bored of complaining about gun shot posts. You can even call me various names on this thread, and I promise not to respond. Think of it as the grade school equivalent of the "free punch". -

The day I get bored reading about gunshot posts is the day the shooters win. Since when is it normal to expect gunshots? Or inevitable that they occur?
I can remember 15 year ago hearing guns shots all of the time in Crown Heights, really. I remember getting a call from a building super at Park Place and Nostrand telling me that a guy was chasing another guy down the street with a big handgun. He asked me what to do. My suggestion: duck! I'll bet no one has seen that lately.
Now gun fire is just occasional. And maybe someday, if we all try really, really hard.............
Howdy, Stranger!
