LOST CAT: Help Find Dusty!

Thanks Mamacita! I am Dawn, Dusty's owner so heres some more info; Dusty is a very friendly, slim, petite female tiger with light grayish brown fur and white paws, chin tummy and rear white 'knee socks'. Very subtle markings, not a real tiger stripe tabby- more of a mottled effect. Alas no tag or chip.
Missing from Bergen St Brooklyn btw 4th and 5th Aves since 10.9.08.. Shes a sucker for 'Temptations' treats! Do contact me with any sightings or even better lure her in so I can come and grab her. If it is my Dusty this shouldn't be too difficult she is not usually shy ( though who's to say how a week on the streets has affected her. )
There is a different cat on Dean st btw 4th and 5th who looks similar to Dusty but has more distinctive stripes so make a note of the markings if you get the chance . If in doubt , contact me anyway. I'm sure there'll be a financial 'thankyou' to anyone who returns her to me. ( But only if its actually Dusty! ) I feel like the people of Park slope Gowanus are my only hope.

Subject: $100 Reward for Dust's return
Thank you for caring. No Dusty is still missing. I am offering a $100 reward for her return as I have a strong feeling she is being held in someone's house. She's a very sweet and friendly cat and someone may have taken a shine to her and is reluctant to give her up. I have chased up many reports of strays in the neighborhood but they are not her. I miss her badly and have lost weight through the anxiety and endless walking around looking for her. -
dawn, keep posting flyers around the block. i used to live around there and lost a cat for over 2 months (!). i had long given up hope but got a call from somebody who had seen the last faded flyer on a telephone pole! he was literally around the corner from me, maybe the whole time. so keep your eyes peeled. good luck!

Ugh. Just want to convey my complete sympathy for how you are feeling. I have suffered through the same situation and really feel for you. I live on the same block and walk my dog all over the area, so I promise to keep my eyes open. Please keep us posted.

Thankyou so much. In spite of everything I'm going through ( and in spite of my belief that someone is choosing to keep my cat despite the posters etc ) an experience like this really confirms my basic faith in ( most ) human nature, So many people, I mean at least 3 calls a day for two weeks, have called, with stray cat sightings. I welcome every one. Having done my research I know that these particular individuals are not Dusty BUT .. the fact remains that, out there , there are complete strangers who take the time to look, report or just drop a note of support, in the selfless hope of reconnecting me with my cat.
I will willingly give a reward to bring Dusty home, but I can tell that, this is not most people's motivation. They're are just being kind and compassionate. Its very heartwarming and makes me very glad to be living in this neighborhood. Little things mean a lot, and at a time like this( and I have many good friends of my own ) I feel bizarrely connected with so many people between 3rd ave/ Douglas and Flatbush and 6th whom I have never met, but who have been so kind as to take the time to keep their eyes open and call a complete stranger, if they think they might have seen this missing cat ( on the stree or in someone's home ). It warms my heart and gives me hope.
Thanks for being one of them.

If someone was nice enough to take him in, but hasn't called, I like to think it's b/c they haven't seen the signs. A lot of folks as so immune to posters they don't even notice them and are so used to dumped animals, they may not think about it being a missing pet.
Keep it up in the pets and lost and found sections of craigslist. Also, I saw a poster in Park Slope for another lost cat that looks very similar to yours but it's a different name and picture. If I see it again, I'll get the info and put it here in case some of the reports you're getting are the other cat.
I'm keeping my eyes open, and more importantly, keeping them on my dog who is a master of spotting kitties. -
Good idea. I am now an expect on the whereabouts of wandering cats in the hood! Maybe I can help someone else find theirs !

Subject: Dusty Still Misssing-$100 Reward
Just an update to let everyone know Dusty is still missing. I feel sure she must be in someone's house. I have chased up so many cats that are not her and she is so friendly. Please keep your ears open for news of neighbors that have taken in 'a stray' in the past 3 weeks. I am desperate. -
Dawn, after reading your posts all over this board, I just wanted to let you know that you are welcome to PM me if you want to talk with someone. I'm sure that it sounds weird, but it seems we live on the same block, I have been through what you are going through, and have been keeping my eyes out for Dusty since day one. I'm sure that you have plenty of your own friends, but I just want you to know that I would be more than happy to 'talk cat' with you anytime.

Subject: Dusty update
Thankyou so much . Thats very kind. Dusty was never returned to me despite heavy postering, flyering and advertising and the wonderful help of so many strangers. I must have had over a 100 phone calls reporting sightings of strays ( many of the same few cats ) and I became an expert on the whereabouts of various homeless tabbies in Park Slope! I know of another lost cat cat who was actually reunited with their owner accidentally thanks to my campaign.
I finally resigned myself to the fact that who ever has her ( and I really believe someone has her and chose to ignore my pleas ) was not giving her up and there was no more I could do. I just have to hope she is well cared for. There isn't a vet, shelter in Brooklyn that doesn't know about Dusty's disappearance.
There is a little happier footnote however. I had repeated sightings of a stray hanging around Sterling/ Prospect Place and a kind chap caught her for me thinking it was Dusty. I knew it wasn't my little girl but I made the decision to take her in anyway and now ( $550 in vets bills later! ) this tiny skinny thing has become a key part of my home. She is so clingy and cuddly its hard to imagine how she coped with living on the street for so long. So at least there is one less homeless cat out there and she is now totally spoilt and we adore each other!
Thanks to everyone who offered emotional support and tried to reunite me with Dusty. This is such a great caring neighborhood we live in. -
I'm so sorry that Dusty hasn't made her way back home, but thrilled that you opened your heart and home to a new kitty friend who is obviously so happy to have a new life inside

Thank you for still looking out. I will go look!
Dawn -
oh, I hope it's her and that this story has a happy ending. Go home, Dusty!
-
my fingers are crossed!
-
oh geez, what happened??
-
Dusty's owner Dawn here. I wasn't able see this cat though it would be a long way from home if it were Dusty. Were you able to see if it had a black tip to its stripey tail? Thats usually a quick way of ruling out similar cats ( of which I have had many reports ). She also had no stripes on her body.
Thanks for thinking of me.
Howdy, Stranger!
