CHECK YOUR VOTER REG STATUS, PRONTO — Brooklynian

CHECK YOUR VOTER REG STATUS, PRONTO

(title in all-caps in honor of the day...)

Go here:
https://voterlookup.elections.state.ny.us/voterSearch.aspx

I had to update and re-activate my registration due to a change of address rendering my current status as "INACTIVE" (therefore unable to vote), which I mailed in well ahead of the mail-in deadline.

And guess what...

I've been checking my registration status online at the link above and it's the only one (of all those folks I nudged well after I sent mine in) which has NOT been updated.

WTF. Am I screwed? Did they lose my registration? I know NY State's projected to be a landslide (and perhaps the first state called), but I am going to be royally pissed if I get no opportunity to vote here due to some idiot's clerical error.

Moral of the story:

Get ye to the link above to check your own registration status, and fast.

I am calling the Kings County Board of Elections first thing early tomorrow morning, and often.

Their info, in case anyone else needs it:

Fax: 718-522-6227

GRRRR... :rambo: ](*,)

  • Thanks Jeffrey! That's a pretty neat site. I was just wondering the other day whether I was registered, as I moved twice since the last elections.
  • Thanks. I will be voting as soon as the polls open because I guarantee that something will happen to render voting booths inoperable, especially in the minority neighborhoods. The repugs are out to steal another election one way or the other. Not registered, faulty inoperable equipment, something is not going to go right for the dems. already lots of stories regarding the same in states with early voting.
  • AWESOME , JEFFREY! THANK YOU!

    MINES IS ALL GOOD.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GO VOTE? WHEN IT'S NOT SO CROWDED I MEAN.

Luckily, New York is going to go to Obama by such a landslide that there's no way they'll be able to steal it here.

FYI, for voting questions and issues, the League of Women Voters is a great resource, whatever your gender.
  • Thanks, Jeffrey. I checked and I'm all good.
  • Looks like I'm all good...says my status is active...but did anyone else have "Your identification has not yet been verified"? Does this just mean they'll check my ID at the polling site or is this a problem?

This is a great site. Thanks for posting! I've already forwarded to my department at work.
  • Okay, weird.

As of this morning (after looking for past few weeks), my status has been magically changed back to "Active."

But still at my old address (and old district voting place).

Ack. (insert bill the cat img here)

Not sure why only status was changed. Perhaps they change that first before they get around to putting in the rest of the reg card changes.

    Well, it's a start, anyway.
  • Thanks for the link. I was freaking out b/c my husband put in a change of address for us. His verification came in but mine didn't. But I looked it up via the link and everything is cool. Thanks again. :D
  • good link!

    Here's more more more
Election Protection's 866 Our Vote and Prepared to Vote a campaign of the NAACP Legal Defense & Education Fund. There's state by state information on both sites. Yes! magazine has 12 Ways You Can Safeguard the Vote, and the National Association of Secretaries of State (the public officials charged with safeguarding your vote) offer Can I Vote?
  • UrbanCowgirl: I have "identification not verified" as well so I called the Board of Elections - they said I was good to go, that it just takes NY State a while to update your status. You can call 866-VOTENYC to confirm.
