would it be possible for you to retype the whole notice and enter the text in here? it's still hard to read even on the video, and if it's something we should pass along, it'll be way easier to do so if we can copy it into emails and send to non-brooklynianers. not that i'm saying who i'm voting for. maybe i'm a mccain voter who just has a strong sense of fair play. or...something. thanks!

seems fake.

Ok, I'm fairly certain this is bullshit and just someone's attempt to scare voters.
I have voted in numerous NY elections and I do not ever recall seeing an "all democrats" selection.
You vote for each office, not by party. (Although, you can vote for every democratic candidate on the ballot, as I do.)
In the case of president, both Obama and McCain will be listed. Simply, mark your ballot for the candidate of your choice. (Note: Sometimes, the same candidate will be listed for more than one party. For example, Obama is the Democratic candidate, so he will be listed as such. However, he might also be listed as the Liberal Party candidate, Green Party candidate, or Independent candidate. Be sure to only mark your choice once or your ballot will not be counted.)
Remember, when you are in the booth voting, if you have questions about the ballot or how to work the machine, you are allowed to ask for help from one of the poll-workers. Don't be intimidated to ask for help!

Subject :IMPORTANT: The voting process on November 4th - PASS IT ON!!!
Hello:
In the event that any of you are planning to vote Democrat on the
November 4 , I thought I'd share the following info I received today
from a registered voter.
When we go into the voting booths , if we select the button
"all democrats" , Barack Obama will be excluded from the vote.
However, if we choose "Barack Obama" first and then select
" all democrats" , he will earn our votes.
It's likely you will not be told this information when you go vote.
Perhaps we should begin passing this information along.
Thanks. -
This information has been circulating but it is not applicable in NY. We do not use electronic voting and therefore you cannot simply push one level to select "all" democrats, republicans, or any other party listed on the machine.
Here, we have the old-fashioned pull levers that can't be hacked, but can be otherwise disabled. -
that information applies only to north carolina.
in NC, you can vote straight-ticket for a given party by checking that box at the top BUT your vote won't include any vote for president.
it's not a computer thing, either; it's how the law is written. i don't even think they have computer voting in NC, though i suppose some districts might.
this election, the problem is likely to hurt obama (more first-time voters), but it's an old law, put in place by the democrats, actually. seemed like a good idea at the time, i guess. NC generally has about twice as many no votes for president as other states -- total coincidence, no doubt.
all reports are that poll workers have been very good about making sure people know. -
here it is in short bits:
1. ONLY TRUE FOR NC
1b. don't think NY does
straight party ticket vote
1c. other states do,
but include president
2. in NC
- straight party ticket does
not include president
- most likely to hurt obama
bc he has more first-timers
- not a computer thing
-dems wrote the law this way
back in the day
-NC typically has double
national average of
abstentions from pres vote -
Subject: Looks Like Electronic in NYC this year
Go to the link below. Put in your county and you will see the type of voting machine you will use this year. It does look like NYC will have electronic voting this year and NOT the pull lever type we all know.
There is a video explaining how to use this voting machine. (I'm bad with links, if this does not work would someone please fix it)
http://www.vote-ny.com/english/index.php -
NYC will have both the old and new machines.
Old machines
New Machine
Am I crazy or did they say the new machine takes 2-4 minutes to DISPLAY THE BALLOT???? How the hell is that supposed to work? No one will ever get to vote in the busier EDs. -
You are not crazy...they did say that. Can you imagine the lines??
-
I'm going as soon as the polls open.
Hey guys , what time do the polls open? -
Polls open at 6 am in Ny and close at 9pm

This is gonna be one wild election.
Voters Across Nation Hit by Dirty Tricks
By DEBORAH HASTINGS

posted: 11 MINUTES AGO
(Nov. 2) - In the hours before Election Day, as inevitable as winter, comes an onslaught of dirty tricks — confusing e-mails, disturbing phone calls and insinuating fliers left on doorsteps during the night.
The intent, almost always, is to keep folks from voting or to confuse them, usually through intimidation or misinformation. But in this presidential race, in which a black man leads most polls, some of the deceit has a decidedly racist bent.
Complaints have surfaced in predominantly African-American neighborhoods of Philadelphia where fliers have circulated, warning voters they could be arrested at the polls if they had unpaid parking tickets or if they had criminal convictions.
Over the weekend in Virginia, bogus fliers with an authentic-looking commonwealth seal said fears of high voter turnout had prompted election officials to hold two elections — one on Tuesday for Republicans and another on Wednesday for Democrats.
In New Mexico, two Hispanic women filed a lawsuit last week claiming they were harassed by a private investigator working for a Republican lawyer who came to their homes and threatened to call immigration authorities, even though they are U.S. citizens.
"He was questioning her status, saying that he needed to see her papers and documents to show that she was a U.S. citizen and was a legitimate voter," said Guadalupe Bojorquez, speaking on behalf of her mother, Dora Escobedo, a 67-year-old Albuquerque resident who speaks only Spanish. "He totally, totally scared the heck out of her."
In Pennsylvania, e-mails appeared linking Democrat Barack Obama to the Holocaust. "Jewish Americans cannot afford to make the wrong decision on Tuesday, Nov. 4," said the electronic message, paid for by an entity calling itself the Republican Federal Committee. "Many of our ancestors ignored the warning signs in the 1930s and 1940s and made a tragic mistake."
Laughlin McDonald, who leads the ACLU's Voting Rights Project, said he has never seen "an election where there was more interest and more voter turnout, and more efforts to suppress registration and turnout. And that has a real impact on minorities."
The Obama campaign and civil rights advocacy groups have signed up millions of new voters for this presidential race. In Ohio alone, some 600,000 have submitted new voter registration cards.
Across the country, many of these first-time voters are young and strong Obama supporters. Many are also black and Hispanic.
Activist groups say it is this fresh crop of ballot-minded citizens that makes some Republicans very nervous. And they say they expect the dirty tricks to get dirtier in final hours before Tuesday.
"Oh, there's plenty of time for things to get ugly," said Zachary Stalberg, president of The Committee of Seventy, a Philadelphia-based government watchdog group that is nonpartisan.
Other reports of intimidation efforts in the hotly contested state of Pennsylvania include leaflets taped to picnic benches at Drexel University, warning students that police would be at the polls on Tuesday to arrest would-be voters with prior criminal offenses.
In his Jewish neighborhood, Stalberg said, fliers were recently left claiming Obama was more sympathetic to Palestinians than to Israel, and showed a photograph of him speaking in Germany.
"It shows up between the screen door and the front door in the middle of the night," Stalberg said. "Why couldn't someone knock on the door and hand that to me in the middle of the day? In a sense, it's very smartly done. The message gets through. It's done carefully enough that people might read it."
Such tactics are common, and are often impossible to trace. Robo-calls, in which automated, bogus phone messages are sent over and over, are very hard to trace to their source, say voting advocates. E-mails fall into the same category.
In Nevada, for example, Latino voters said they had received calls from people describing themselves as Obama volunteers, urging them to cast their ballot over the phone.
The calls were reported to Election Protection, a nonprofit advocacy group that runs a hot line for election troubles. The organization does not know who orchestrated them.
"The Voting Rights Act makes it a crime to misled and intimidate voters," said McDonald. "If you can find out who's doing it, those people should be prosecuted. But sometimes it's just difficult to know who's doing what. Some of it's just anonymous."
Trying to mislead voters is nothing new.
"We see this every year," said Jonah Goldman of the advocacy group Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. "It all happens around this time when there's too much other stuff going on in the campaigns, and it doesn't get investigated."
In 2006, automated phone calls in the final days leading to the federal election wrongly warned voters they would not be allowed to vote without a photo ID. In Colorado and Virginia, people reported receiving calls that told them their registrations had expired and they would be arrested if they showed up to vote.
The White House contest of 2004 was marked by similar deceptions. In Milwaukee, fliers went up advising people "if you've already voted in any election this year, you can't vote in the presidential election." In Pennsylvania, a letter bearing what appeared to be the McCandless Township seal falsely proclaimed that in order to cut long voting lines, Republicans would cast ballots on Nov. 2 and Democrats would vote on Nov. 3.
E-mail assaults have become increasingly popular this year, keeping pace with the proliferation of blogging and Obama's massive online campaign efforts, according to voting activists.
"It is newer and more furious than it ever has been before," Goldman said.
And Republicans are not exempt. "Part of it is that election campaigns are more online than ever before," said Goldman. "During the primaries, a lot of Web sites went up that seemed to be for (GOP candidate Rudy) Giuliani, but actually were attack sites."
New York City's former mayor and his high-profile colleagues Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney were also targeted in fake Internet sites that featured "quotes" from the candidates espousing support for extreme positions they never endorsed.
Pundits predict Election Night results:
Chris Matthews, MSNBC's 'Hardball With Chris Matthews' host
Presidential (Popular ~ Electoral): Obama 52% ~ 338 vs. McCain 46% ~ 200
Senate: 56 Democrats vs. 42 Republicans vs. 2 Others
House: 264 Democrats vs. 171 Republicans -
So you're saying it's Republicans that are doing this, based on one article? And why should there be any real creedence put into this, especially if it's an article written by the AP? Since the media has been Obamasized since the start, there have been an incredible amount of misinformation set out as well as what the hell ever happened to the media reporting the truth? Unbiased. Isn't that what they're supposed to do if they are professional?? How come they won't show the video of the PLO dinner Obama attended? If he didn't do anything that might alarm others, what is the challenge to letting us see the tape?
I've found this to be a most disgusting election across the board.
And I have to say that something has happened to the democratic party that I find totally disturbing.
It used to be when you disagreed with someone politically you could discuss the differences. But the democratic party has taken a turn of, if you disagree, we'll destroy you and your reputation. They have become elitist and demeaning. And I am not at all saying all Democrats. Come on, most obvious story being Joe the Plumber. All he did was ask a question of Obama who come into his neighborhood. When he made the comment about "sharing the wealth" and realized the repurcussions the political machine when into full tilt to destroy Joe. Went into his personal files checking his child support payments, tax payments, etc. I believe that's completely illegal, in fact. Even that his real first name isn't Joe. Hey listen, if that's a crime then how come it's not reported that Obama used to go by the name Barry growing up? Was that illegal??
And the whole Sarah Palin attack. I guess we should put Joe Biden (the plagerist who lied and used a British man's life story as his and got caught.) Maybe we're better off with Joe who is known to have foot in mouth disease as we've seen recently. I'm sure (God forbid if something happened to Obama) when he says something stupid to a world leader they'll laugh and shake it off. Or wait for the attack that he says will happen in 6 months (let's just give the terrorists more ideas)?
Please know that I have been Independent and was voting for Obama but have deep reservations in the last few weeks after observing the socialist leanings he's showed. Yeah.... lets all do without for all of our life, work hard, skrimp and save for retirement and the kids college so that we can redistribute it all to those who put everything on credit cards, take out huge mortgages that their paychecks can't even cover, go bankrupt and walk away with a hand out from the govenment. Theres some real incentive to get ahead.
I'm sorry, but I had to vent and I'm sure I'll get slammed for doing it.
So let's just pray that whoever wins doesn't destroy this great country. Because there is no nation on earth that gives the hope and freedom that America does. And that is what we've fought for for hundreds of years and lost many lives to protect.
Vote well and with real information tomorrow.

Discussion about whether revealing this is appropriate
-
That article is just a compilation of dozens of stories from multiple different media outlets around the country.
I guess Fox News, every Rupert Murdoch publication, and most talk radio in the U.S. don't count as "the media" somehow? -
Interesting that the Mod noted this was from Dakotas Way, because I contacted a Moderator last week to find out how to get back into my original name (?) after trying everything I could for monthgs, since my internet was bought out by another company and I couldn't sign in as Dakotas Way. It kept saying the name was already in use, but didn't accept my sign in.
I don't care that you revealed anything and any discussion is welcome.
And all of the above media didn't hold a candle to the media majority that has guided the news in the last months. -
Ahhh, I see. Dakotas, did you ask DailyHeights? He's able to get more into the gears of the website and see why your past login didn't work.
Back to topic, so this is only for NC right? I wonder on a broader note if we are going to see the ballot counting mess of the last time. -
I contacted whomever wrote up the original rules for posting. I'll try once again because I never, ever want to represent myself as someone I am not.
Thanks Mamacita. -

This is my first time voting in NY so I don't know what to expect machine and ballot wise. I'm just gonna mark each person one by one.
